True, but they also cited a survey from TS Rebel which isn't mentioned on their own site despite them having an up to date Latest News page. And a survey is no use to man nor beast unless they give some idea of who was surveyed, how many people, ages, locations etc.

Unless of course the journalist just made it up or totally misrepresented what they did actually report

Make them tell the truth for once instead of picking up on a few stories and assuming that's the situation all over the place. Especially when they cite dubious surveys to back up their own lack of investigation.

Steve
well if they used a similar level of "toughness "i doubt the journalists would have much to worry about !

The Heath and Safety Executive and the EU don't allow fish and chips to be served in newspapers anymore!

The latest stealth move against the motorist started today:

BBC NEWS | UK | New parking rules come into force

Now if they can do this to motorists and clearly see the car and driver with CCTV, why can't they for muggings, vandalism and other street crime? Whenever you see CCTV footage of criminals in the act on Crimewatch the images are so crap that the person filmed could be one of 60,000,000 people in the UK!

some digital cameras on the a14 are capable of catching motorists on the phone ,unwrapping a sweet etc ,for motoring convictions the car is registered in the drivers name and the british people as a whole will just pay the fine to avoid a fuss = nice easy conviction / fine for the local plod ,getting hold of the hood urchin ,[ without him claiming hes been assaulted in the process ] making sure he attends court ,chasing him for the fine etc is not easy however

Well said penfold ..... that's a real bugbear of mine. Even hands free sets are dangerous. How can you be fully concentrating on keeping your 1 ton piece of moving metal safe when you're jabbering on the phone.

actually that last point i made has made me realise why you need a police presence on the road ,the selfish and aggressive driver just slows down and behaves himself when he knows theres cameras about ,you need a police car with human occupants to catch the tell tale signs of a dangerous driver ,a camera waiting for someone doing 34 in a 30 limit at 4 in the morning is just a revenue making machine

Fortunately I'm so insignificant and unimportant that nobody ever rings me on my mobile whether I'm driving or otherwise! But if they did I'd make sure it was switched off or out of reach in the car.

I always keep my telephone switched on,but I never use it when I am driving. If it rings,I let it ring. When I can stop somewhere convenient,I reply to the call. No one has any reason to talk on their mobile whilst driving. Even if it means dialling 999,they have to stop anyway to relay as much detail to the emergency services.

Well done. I do the same. But a lot of people seem to be incapable of letting a telephone ring.

I know that if I don't answer my mobile then it'll switch to voice mail and if it's important they can leave a message and I'll call them back when I've come to the end of my journey.

careless / selfish / dangerous drivers will always break the rules ,behave themselves when they know cameras are about and then drive dangerously again when there arent ,you need proper traffic cops in cars that could turn up anywhere particularly if its an unmarked car to be a deterrant ,cameras are a great deal cheaper than people though ,

The other worrying thing I've noticed over the years is the number of drivers who turn to look at their front seat passenger whilst having a conversation instead of looking ahead.

Also I can't fathom how satnav and DVD screens are allowed in the fronts of cars. It was, and still is as far as I know, illegal to have any kind of TV screen in the front of a car in case it distracts the driver. Perhaps the police have forgotten this basic road traffic law and such gadgets have slipped through the net.

Satnav is useful but you can listen to the audio without the need for a screen stuck on your windscreen or built in to the dashboard. A recipe for disaster on today's busy roads.

Perhaps a policeman member of the forum can explain why these screens are allowed?

I read where Abu Qatada, rated one of the world's "most dangerous terror suspects", is preparing for life on benefits in Britain after judges ruled that his deportation would breach human rights law.
Qatada is said to be Osama bin Laden's ambassador in Europe, has been linked to a string of global terror conspiracies and is rated by the security services as being "truly dangerous".
Britain has been trying to deport Qatada for the last three years. He is currently being held in Belmarsh jail.
He could now be released from jail within months after the Court of Appeal verdict.

The Jordanian father of five, can now expect to receive 1,000 quid a month in handouts, plus other benefits from the British government.
The British taxpayer also faces a bill of tens of thousands of pounds to keep the cleric under 24 hour surveillance by security services.

At the same time 12 Libyans, part of a group that were considered as direct threats to British security, were also cleared to remain in Britain for the rest of their lives by a second rights court ruling.

Dave.
