The scrapping of the 10p tax band will also impact on pensions

Wow, £60 towards your fare - for each person!
What a bargain

Was there a date on that?
I was wondering if it was about the same time as the "Ten pound Poms" and their assisted passage to Australia just after the war when things were particularly bleak in Blighty

Why is it that Britain has the world's highest fuel tax - a whopping 188% - and the sixth highest petrol price in the whole world?

Answers please on a postcard......

Well if we have the highest tax but only the sixth highest total price then we must be getting the source ingredients at bargain prices

As predicted Brown is just trying desperately to cling on to his position, no matter how cringeworthy and embarassing he is when trying to fend off difficult questions from the media. Politics aside, had he been the boss in 1997 instead of Bliar I don't think they would have got into power.

After Bliar made his fortune and then escaped his responsibility and cock-ups by stepping down, Brown was a sort of "cast-off" PM, nobody's choice but he desperately wanted the job as his last chance for glory and gain! After he loses the next election he will struggle to get on the Z list of after-dinner speakers or become a lowly building society's non-executive director, so he needs to cream off as much cash as possible!

People will always leave the UK believing that the grass is greener, but personally I'd rather stay and fight my corner and reclaim my own country back from the type of people who do nothing but abuse it! Zero tolerance is the only way, and as citizens we can do something about those aspects of society which spoil it for everybody. So like Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, you just have to make a song and dance about everything until the authorities stop taking "minor crime" for granted and start doing something positive!

I was reading about a case today where three late 30s early 40s drunken slappers on benefit mugged an intoxicated man and stole his wallet. They were caught on CCTV and each were jailed for 3 years, now this is a very good reaction to the sort of crime that is rife in the UK, and if 3 years in prison became the minimum sentence then it won't be too long before people stopped bloody doing it!

Dave.

If we want high quality public services they have to be paid for. No party raising income tax would now get into power in this country (because we have been brainwashed into thinking income tax is bad). Therefore taxes must be raised from other levies.

Cheap petrol or the NHS - you decide.

Personally, I think income tax should be higher and richer people should pay more. Tax loopholes should be closed with the same rigour they chase poor single mums on benefit who do a bit of part-time cleaning! If we were a bit more grown-up about tax in this country, we wouldn't have to have so much on VAT and feul duty.

There should also be a tightening on who exactly can use the NHS.

A recent BBC program revealed that non UK residents in their hundreds are flying to Britain, then upon arrival immediately phoning for an ambulance so that they can have their medical ailments treated at British taxpayers expense.
Such practices are costing the NHS millions every year.

Dave.
