I know of someone who came to the UK as an immigrant in the 1960s, went back to live in their native country in the 1990s and by using their daughter's UK address as their own permanent one, regularly returns to Blighty for NHS treatment! If the regulations were tightened up then the vast amounts put into education and health would have some significance and we would see marked improvements! As it is it's just like trying to put out a forest fire with a few buckets of water! The government wants to be all things to all men but this is just a recipe for disaster! If you overload the service it will inevitably fail, and people's lives are at stake! It's not a race thing either, it's just Common bloody Sense! Ironically we've now got a massive increase of NI contributing UK citizens flying off to India and the Far East and paying for their operations because they have to wait too long in the UK! The solution is simple, if people want to come and live in the UK then they must pay for private medical insurance! I can live without Sky TV so why can't they? ![]()

So I take it the person you know was in the UK paying NI and taxes when appropriate for 30+years, and their daughter ever since then....hardly non-contributing. But there are also many ex-pats returning from abroad for treatment....what's the difference, apart from place of birth??

Either way it's fraud and the taxpayer in whatever country it occurs in are the victims because when they need treatment it may no longer be available! Anyone found out should be prosecuted as with any fraudster!

Didn't one very famous ex pat return to the UK for medical treatment? Im talking about Ronnie Biggs, his failing health prompted him to return and give himself up as he knew he would be well looked after in the UK. What a bloomin cheek!

Although Biggs didn't strike the blow ... the Great Train Robbers were responsible for the death of a railway worker who was coshed. If he had died there and then and not some years later Biggs could have been charged with murder.

Apart from The Great Train Robbery and its gang of "luvvable working class Cockney rogues" there were the Krays and the Richardsons who were seemingly a law unto themselves and showed no respect for any kind of authority. The serious crimes that the Kray twins were eventually convicted of were the murders of two fellow villains, and they were sentenced to serve at least 30 years. Not for those two crimes per se but to teach them a lesson and show the rest of the country that such lawless behaviour and disrespect will not be tolerated. Although Ron was eventually transferred to Broadmoor, Reg served well in excess of his recommended term and was only released shortly before he died of a terminal illness. There should be a level playing field so that murder for example carries one universal life sentence, no ifs, buts or maybes. Some gang members sentenced this week only received 15 years for murder, whilst in a similar gang related murder case of a 14 year old the criminals received life sentences. Which could mean anything from, say 9 years to 30 years! The same could be the case with armed robbery, mugging or whatever so that if you commit the crime you know what you'll get! Unfortunately the legal profession prefers ambiguity because of the massive amounts of income it generates for its members, especially when cases go to appeal when they uncover a like for like case with a difference in the sentencing. The legal profession above all else looks after its own it's not interested in justice it wants vast amounts of money, which in itself is criminal! The British public and media do have a tradition of hero worshipping certain criminals from Dick Turpin to Ronnie Biggs, and it's possibly the working class hero villain up against the might of the establishment which puts these characters on a pedestal.

That is a detail that is often overlooked, someone died as a result of being cracked on the head and knocked unconcious by the "Great Train Robbers". The robbers and Biggs were regarded as heroes or lovable rogues by many people, I think they were no such thing and deserved their punshment and its a real pity Biggs was not brought to justice a long time ago.It must have been painfull for the family of the man who died to see Biggs living it up in Brazil and showing no remorse or concern for the effect of his actions.

I'm not sure about all of this...............no doubt the poor guy was coshed but I've read stuff that says he didn't die as a result......??
![]() Maybe? The aurthorities wanted some revenge.................?If 30 year terms were warrented..................er..............how come they never have been since.........? No, this was vicious, get even by the establishment. If it was law and order, my god, we'd have fuller jails then we do now!
