As an MM fan, I'd love to have a look around, but I wouldn't want to buy it. It'd be terrible to live there thinking how lonely she was rattling around the rooms. (I'm of the school that thinks she had an accidentally-on-purpose overdose).

Mind you, having looked at the place, it's pretty gorgeous!

If only I had a spare $3.595 million lying around I'd be tempted to make an offer.

I'd imagine that amount could be made back annually if the owners were prepared to restore it to how it looked in 1962 and add a few pieces of Monroe memoribilia before opening it to paying tourists.

I'm surprised Marilyn's house wasn't bulldozed years ago. Hopefully, it will survive for future generations of her fans. I was disgusted when Jimmy Stewart's home was wrecked as well as Irene Dunne's. Probably many more as well.

The neighbors won't let you. It isn't zoned for that.

Miserable sods. Right, I'll take my money elsewhere then.

Somehow I doubt the seller would accept my £950 offer anyway.

It's usually some exiled Iranian billionaire or a producer that wants to build a gazillion-square-foot house, and never mind what's being bulldozed. If they were pressed, they'd probably argue that, 'iWell, the old place is riddled with termites,' which is the reason they gave for razing Pickfair (Mary Pickford and Doug Fairbanks' home).

Jimmy Stewart's wife was an avid gardener, so he purchased the house immediately next door and tore it down, to give her more room in which to garden--so I guess turnabout's fair play when it came to destroying his home.

The few times I've driven through Beverly Hills, I never stopped to think, 'I'll bet none of these places are paid for.' One out of seven million-dollar homes is sold at auction (for non-payment of the mortgage), versus one out of eleven (unless I'm out of date here) for moderately priced homes.

I think it was the only home she ever owed though, which gives it uniqueness. (Plus the fact she died there). Poor girl must have been trying for some stability and independence.

She single handedly sourced, viewed and bought the Brentwood house after conversations with her therapist about her need to add stability to her life. She picked the home for its private location and was, apparently, very proud of her new residence and her own ability to become a homemaker.

IMO it adds weight to the assisted suicide theory. Perhaps a stable and settled Marilyn with bills to pay was a dangerous concept to certain people.

I can forsee an alternative situation where Marilyn realised all the domestic trappings in the world weren't going to improve how she felt about herself - 3 broken marriages, several broken love affairs, a dozen abortions, psychiatric problems, drug and alcohol dependence, suicide attempts, no supportive family, a hideous childhood and a stalling career with an uncertain future. Who needed assistance?
