does anyone else misread the title of the thread as 'john of goats'?
Although that's what the "o' " in "John o' Groats" does mean, "John of Groats"![]()
It isn't like the Irish names like O'Leary which means "son of Leary"
"John of Groats" was originally "Jan de Groot", a Dutchman who ran the first ferry from the Scottish mainland to Orkney (where the biggest island is also confusingly called "Mainland")
