I have written before, regarding the general apathy and

ignorance of the staff in our local HMV store, here in

happening Derby.Well today,I was passing and a large

placard advertised a 'Mega Sale' which started this

    very morning.

I went in,always on the lookout to fill gaps in my DVD

collection, and had two surprises. One was that there was

very little, bugger all in fact,in the 'mega-sale'.And the

second thing I noticed was that the place had a derelict

air about it,empty shelves,no stacks of boxed sets

cluttering the aisles as per usual.

No clusters of bored staff, hanging about talking about PC

    games/movies/sex/drugs/rock and roll etc!

I wondered if the rumours were true, that HMV are in fact,

closing down some/all of their retail outlets, owing to the

economic state of the country in general, and their own company

    in particular?

If this is so,it will leave us here in Derby without a single

    retail outlet for DVD's/Blu-Ray/CD's whatever!

Hi. In our local HMV Store the staff are quite superb have to say, even when I ask them for some obscure black and white film which is more often than not. But, I was sorry to hear that they were having problems posting sales down by around 25%, and I also see the shares are also down 11%. With Christmas coming up fast I hope things improve for them as I always look forward to a march into the local store to see what is new and also a chat with the staff. Perhaps HMV are trying to spread themselves a little thin also having involvement in Cinema, Clothing and more?

The ambiance does not exactly make one inclined to browe, my local store in Guildford always seems to have acid house, trance garage or whatever belting out at maximum setting and I beat a hasty retreat before my ears start to bleed
