Looking through the Radio Times this weekend, I noticed that the first few Christmas films
are being shown on TV. Now I know that Sky has no shame and has been known to show Christmas themed films and TV in July, but when do you think that it is acceptable to start showing Christmas films on TV?. Personally, I believe that about a week before Christmas is soon enough, otherwise by the time the big day is here I have had enough.

I'd say a fortnight before the day itself is ample time to show all the usual suspects.

The same goes for the playing of Christmas songs in shopping centres. Yes, Westfield London, I do mean you and your playing of the Spector Christmas album in early November!

from the 10th of december until christmas afternoon! none of this stupid 'a christmas carol' on boxing day b******s-it's over by boxing day! the same with christmas music! also,i don't like this trend of 'spiderman' etc being the christmas day film-it's no different than getting money instead of presents as a kid, utterly pointless!

I'd say any time from December 1st. Same with Christmas lights on the streets. And keep them on until January 6th. Then no more until December 1st.

    From the 1st of December.

I love Christmas films and TV specials! They help to set the mood for the season of goodwill and 24 days of build up is hardly overdoing it.

    Ho Ho Ho....

Why should Christmas films be limited to any time of year? I think that it's fine to show them at any time of year.
Do we only watch films about sunny days in the summer?

There's something 'of the season' about A Christmas Carol though, isn't there? But then I have about six different versions on DVD and so the choice is watch them all, which will soon get rather dull, or watch one and another the next year - which means waiting a long time to see the Sim version again ... or, alternatively, watch them whenever on the grounds that it isn't really obligatory just to watch a Christmas film at Christmas. It does depend on the film though.

Even with such a classic Christmas film as the Alastair Sim version of A Christmas Carol, I wouldn't limit viewing it so that I could only watch it at Christmas time. Why not watch it in the middle of summer? The message in the story is still as applicable at any time of year. Same with other "Christmas" films like It's a Wonderful Life or even Holiday Inn and White Christmas. Watch them all at any time of year, as the mood takes you

it annoys me when one of the best bond films OHMSS is shown on a may bank holiday or something and the real exciting part of the film starts when he escapes from blofeld and tries to hide amongst the revellers in a xmas themed festival being held in a nearby village .
the whole momentum of it leads to one of the best action sequences in any bond movie and with a lovely xmas feel to it .
they should really save that one for boxing day or something

i watch all the versions of 'a christmas carol' that i have, all the 'ghost stories for christmas' series and any christmas related drama in the two weeks leading to christmas, finishing on christmas night then repeat the ritual in a years time-i couldn't watch 'a christmas carol' in summer like steve suggests! (which is why i'm yet to watch the basil rathbone version that i've had for 4 months!)
