Brilliant! Congratulations to both of them.
Edmundo Ros, OBE., bandleader, is 100 today
Eli Wallach is 95
Brilliant! Congratulations to both of them.
I first learnt that Edmundo Ros was about to reach 100 last month, but not wishing to tempt fate decided not to post anything about it until the day arrived. Although he was by no means to my taste, his name always seemed to crop up on the "Light programme" in the mid sixties, when I was barely out of my pram and my Mother would have "Housewifes Choice" on the radio when pirate radio couldn't be received. It seemed that every second record was "The coffee song" or "Yellow Bird". To hear that he is still alive seems like a miracle.
Fantastic. I love the music of Edmundo Ros. Congrats to both of them on their milestone birthdays :)
The Times birthday tribute:
The bandleader Edmundo Ros tells readers of his website that he is still going strong in Spain after making his last public appearance in 1994.
A centenary album was released this year, which featured 100 of his tracks. After the war he owned several high society nightclubs in London and the young Princess Elizabeth and her fiance danced to his music - an event which made his name.
In 1948, he recorded THE WEDDING SAMBA, which sold more than 3 million copies.
Anyone remember the title of his signature tune?
Happy Birthday Edmundo. Ah, the Wedding Samba. Takes me back to my youth.
Thank you for all your music over the years.
