Sad, but unfortunately not unexpected. Still, he left us with two of the greatest pop songs of all time, so hats off and I applaud you Gerry and thank you for the joy you have brought to millions. If not billions.

Poor fella. I had no idea about his story, being just one of those multi-millions possessed by the wonder of his one pop hit. I can recall passing through Baker Street more than once over the many years since, and thinking each time that it was quite remarkable that anyone had ever supplanted Sherlock Holmes in my initial "word association" mind. But his song did.

A shame it never seems to have brought him as much happiness.

A great musical talent sadly wasted. Very sad. Baker Street is a true classic.

That's such a Mighty Groove on the intro of that song.

Check out bass player Mo Foster's kick into the first verse...

How infuriating that people assume his talent was wasted. It's a futile and erroneous argument.

Incidentally I was amused to see the 'Bob Holness played sax on Baker Street' story resurfacing on Twitter today!

I wasn't being disrespectful. I think Gerry Rafferty's music was excellent. And he might still have been doing excellent work now if he hadn't wasted himself on alcohol. It's a waste of a great talent.
