Hi, I thought I would just pop by to say hello and to see if there any historical drama buffs around who might be interested in this article and might, like me, see the huge potential for a film in this story? Hope you like it, but it won't be available free for long unfortunately - it will soon disappear behind a paywall again!

With George Washington and Marie Antoinette as supporting characters I'm surprised this wasn't tackled when such sweeping dramas were all the rage. The article mentions a 'fanciful' play treatment so clearly potential of sorts was seen. Fascinating story though.

If film producers look in here (?) then maybe they might be inspired by the story?! di-di5, if you want to check out the Wikipedia article on Asgill Sir Charles Asgill, 2nd Baronet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia you will see that there were several French plays written about him, along with one American play too. It's not the first time History Today has covered his story either, although the first article lacked the knowledge from the prisoner's own account, which has not been covered before. The book General Washington's Dilemma is the main work on the subject though that too lacks the new knowledge. There is so much potential - if only someone would see it and do something about it!

The March 2008 edition used a picture of Patrick McGoohan in a feature on Edward 1st, with the byline:
"Greater care was taken with the accuracy of the costumes than with the film's historical content."

I wondered if many other actors have graced the pages of History Today

Thanks Arbil - interesting stuff. I can see why the story would be taken up in France.
