As we approach Remembrance Day,where we rightly remember those fallen in two world wars and conflicts since,I think we should also remember the members of the emergency services.
Four firefightters lost their lives tackling a blaze at a warehourse in Atherstone-On-Stour,which flared up last Friday. Ian Reid,44,was pulled out from the fire on that day,but died later in hospital. A relentless search was carried out over five days, until their bodies were found last night. Two hundred firefighters formed a guard of duty,as a hearse carrying the bodies of Darren Yates-Badley,24,Ashley Stephens,20,and John Averis,27,drove them away from the site of the fire. I am sure all of us will spare a thought for the lads and their families, but also be thankful for all those who pursue to ensure our safety. Mark

I agree Marky B.
The Fire Service & perhaps The RNLI are two of the most underated services. No words can really do justice to the sterling work these people do!

Excellent sentiments chaps - and remember it's not just the fallen, but those (and their families) who will have have to cope with injuries, trauma and loss as a result of the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan for many years to come. Sadly the further away we get from the conflicts which first inspired the poppy appeal fund, the need for it does not diminish as we would hope.
So dig deep for your poppy (no doubt many of you already have) and wear it with pride. Let's not forget, for those many, many reasons both past and present. Respect to each and every person who puts their life on the line and shows such amazing courage every day. Smudge
