That is what you do with obsolete crafts Faginsgirl -you put them in heritage centres eh?
Your family Faginsgirl condemned the miner's jobs the day you switched on the central heating and filled in coal hole. Labour knew it had to happen but they didn't have the guts to do it. The fact that the Labour Government had left the country bankrupt in 1979 (so whats new?) pushed the issue of closing clapped out industries into the for front, otherwise Britain was heading for the third world making candlesticks and typewriters into the 21st century.

Actually faginsgirl, there are far more 'deluded' (as YOU prefer to think about them) than you would care to believe. arfur is absolutely right.
The person who REALLY sealed the miners' fate in Britain was Arthur Scargill - who used his members in a personal attempt to topple a woman Prime Minister who he KNEW was a threat to him. He'd already sunk Edward Heath and he thought Mrs. Thatcher was going to be a push-over, little realising that she would have the country behind her when she refused to give in to his ridiculous demands; they'd had more than enough of Scargill by that time!
So, technically, you have to blame the whole country - to direct it entirely at the Baroness, is quite wrong.![]()
Arthur Scargill does not spend much time now in his 'King Arthur's Castle' which got that name because it is one of biggest houses in Yorkshire (He purchased that just after the end of the miner's conflict).
He now spends most of his time in London in a Barbican flat which has a £35,000 annual service charge being paid for by the miner's union.
Dont you just love 'socialists'? - whining on about anybody that might have a bit more than them- but as soon as the opportunity comes for them to stick their snout in trough, they cant wait to put their full face in and lap it up.
How many 'charities' and 'off shore' accounts does Tony Blair have now to save a few quid on tax?
Probably loads of them, just like most other MP (or ex-MPs) of all parties. If he and a few others paid all the tax that they should then there would be no national debt. Unlike how you think the world works it really has nothing to do with politics and political parties. Just with greedy criminals and the rest of us

chumblywumbly had the right idea as far as politicians and pop music is concerned

I would hardly rate Thatcher's years as some kind of "Golden Age" but the situation eventually bequeathed did seem to be somewhat brighter than the one she inherited. The notions of clarity about *sides* mentioned upthread are possibly relevant too. One big reason for her continued *popularity* at the time ( and the Churchill comparisons since) is that she firmly set her face (and hence ours) against the *evil empire* of totalitarian socialism. I was reading an old news clipping of her in the run-up to the '79 election and the headline was about "Labour Marxists". Scargill personified that Fifth Column. Back then the threat from Communism was physical and real, whilst today the Left seem to try to pass the Soviet era off as some minor and small abberration in the great march to *cuddly equality*, whilst simultaneously never wanting to shut up about Fascists and the evil Right as personified by the long-dead Hitler - denying at the same time that he also was a Socialist........
Noel was outspoken at the times of the summer riots about how in Thatcher's Time Yoof had a grievance, whereas post-Blair they just wanted Leisure-wear for free.....
I must admit the parrallels of history have struck me that when Thatcher/Conservatives got in in '79 we had riots in the streets within a year or so, and when the Conservative coalitionsits got in this time, we had riots in the streets within a year or so. Some predilictions of the cuddly Left seem never to change.....
Your move in the Class war Mr. Ed..........
