Following the release of The Iron Lady, starring Meryl Streep as former
Prime Minister Magaret Thatcher, it seems a topical subject to discuss her era
these days. Now former Oasis rock star Noel Gallagher has offered his opinion on
her reign, which surprisingly he says Britain was better under the former Prime
Minister.
‘We were brought up under Thatcher,’ Noel Gallagher said.
‘There was a work ethic – if you were unemployed, the obsession was to find
work. Now, these kids brought up under the Labour Party and whatever this
Coalition thing is, it’s like, “Forget that, I’m not interested. I wanna be on
TV.” It was a different mindset back then.’

Noel, I'm confused was it Margaret Thatcher or Meryl Streep that invented the work ethic ? I'm guessing now you no longer have to play in a second string Beatles cover band, you have time to think about these things. Maybe you and "your kid" could patch it up for one last hurrah - a glorious Pro- Thatcher anthem ?
This is from a man who used to nick cars for a living in the Thatcher years!
However, it is true that kids grow up thinking they will become rich and famous through rubbish t.v these days. The lazy and concieted ones that is. Thank God for the other kids who haven`t been too brainwashed by the media yet!
Hilarious comments from someone who thought it was really cool to hang out with Tony Blair!
You are right of course, but I also think Noel is just getting mixed up with his political knowledge and his view on kids today. I don`t think Labour today has anything to do with the modern get rich and famous quick attitudes. It`s all media. Saying that, Blair was star struck which definately didn`t help, also, no offence to her, only, when you think about what she does or doesn`t stand for, Gerri Halliwell on Labour party policial broadcasts?. Frightening that politcs stoop so low!

Do we really need any more proof of what plonkers the Gallagher brothers (yes, both of them) are?

It's worthwhile to point out that Noel Gallagher took a lot of drugs in the 90s and therefore his remembrance of things past might not be completely tickety boo![]()
Here in Spain, there's a saying "Things were better against Franco", obviously a humorous variant on the sad "Things were better under Franco". It means (as you can see) that things were better when they were simpler; back then when the enemies were clear, the friends were clear, and we were all much younger. Noel Gallagher's 45 now. Of course things were better 25 years ago. But he can hardly say "Things were better under Thatcher because I was 20 and I liked my mates and I had big dreams that were threatening to actually come true", so he dresses it up in some "work ethic" nonsense.
More to the point:
a) High Flying Birds?
b) Beady Eye?
c) Both of you: please stop it, it's tiring.
Quite true what he said, the young were alive & vibrant in the 1980s, fresh creativity, art and talent was being created on a daily basis,on their own terms, not the manufactured crud of Cowell.
Under the Labour Government many of the young just became a load of zombies.
The Labour Government were the true heirs to 'there is no such thing as society' as they disenfranchised so many young people, as the marxist elements wanted divide and rule anyway.
What a surprise, Arfur ignores history again and has a dig at Labour and gives a boost for Thatcher
Under Maggie we had the music of a dispirited and desperate youth like Two-Tone
It was very creative but it was bleak
The Specials - Ghost Town
When Blair first came into power we had Cool Brittania and Britpop
Blur - Parklife
But reality never did suit (or interfere with) your world view did it?
