I am turning to you my friends on this subject. I was given a book by a friend called The Lake District : An Illustrated Guide Book and it was published by Ward Lock & Co's.
There is no date, and a big clue is that at the time of publishing The Lake District was not a national park. It has many adverts in it for hotels, books, and a brand of cigarettes by The Imperial Ottoman Tobacco Regie (eg Yenidje Stout Oval priced at 13/- per 100). However,in Barrow-In-Furness,there is a hotel called The Duke of Edinburgh,so would that be named after the present Duke,or was there a previous holder of that post? There is also an advert for The Tak-Kos-Kope Company Ltd of 64 New Bond Street in London. The book is red. It is not for sale and I would not like to part with it as it is an invaluable insight of the Lake District of many years ago.
Cheers,friends!

Cheers,Michael - that book is similiar to the one I have got, except for a different cover. Mine has what looks like the Royal Standard and a crown, both within circles and in a larger circle. 1938 is the date I would wager that mine was printed, but it is The Duke of Edinburgh hotel in Barrow in Furness which might state it was post 1947. However, there is no mention of the war.

Accordind to wiki the hotel was built in the 1870s, Presumably it was named after Quueen Victoria's second son
