Default What's In A Name?

I must say that I am quite amused by some of the names that modern day parents are giving their children.
In many cases it seems the parents are making up their own names for their children and spelling them accordingly. I would hate to grow up with some of the monikers given to these unfortunate children.
Whatever happened to good old John, Peter and Paul? Or Jane, Judy and Anne?

My local newspaper often prints photos and names of new born babies and here are a few that have featured recently. The spelling is down to the parents.

BOYS - Dilan, Judd, Khai, Justus, Taj, Donte, Alen, Amen, Logan, Layton, Oska, Kodi, Luis, Paddy, Finn and Jett.

GIRLS - Shae-Lee, Charla, Marusha, Estemie, Mikayleah, Minty, Herione, Mariya, Dakoda, Sumarah, Rumer, Mata, Kyla, Finley, Luka and Tully.

I'm sure that as these kids grow up they will get many weird nicknames given to them and they will be forever answering the question - "And how do you spell your name?"

Dave.

Does anyone remember Rumer Godden? There's a good precedent there.

And fancy calling your daughter Listeria!

I think that some of the cruellest celebrity children's names are from the Bowie, Geldof and Zappa families - Zowie, Peaches, Fifi Trixiebell, Dweezil and Moon Unit.

Nick
Bruce Willis and Demi Moore named their daughter after Rumer Godden and the other one is called Scout, after the character in To Kill A Mockingbird. They have another daughter called Tallulah.

Not sure about that one .... it would seem the logical connection but you never can tell with these Hollywood types.

It's a good job they don't name them after the place they were conceived, like
aunty winnies carpet, bmw back seat, red lion car park, park bench, but who knows, the way it's going we may see something like it soon.

I went to college with a girl called tufflington. It had to do with her grandmothers accident in the butchers when she found out about her husbands death in WW1. Of cause she found out he wasnt dead and just missing in action.

I suppose strange names have been turning up from time to time since the Romans upped sticks and left us. The Victorians were puzzled by the popularity of the city of Florence with their maids - most probably from F. Nightingale I suppose- and the question where Mr. and Mrs. Gascoigne got their offspring's moniker is a real university challenge.
