Default Where Do You Live?

This topic was first posted on the forum over a year ago and proved quite popular but was subsequently lost when BritMovie was revamped.

As we appear to have members gathered from many different parts of the world I thought it would be interesting to again share pictures of where we live.

I live at Maroochydore, situated on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.
I'm 10 minutes away from many lovely beaches including the one pictured above at Maroochydore. Noosa is just half an hour from me.
I'm 5 minutes away from the Maroochy River and wetlands. Very popular with fishermen and havens for wildlife.
And I'm 30 minutes from the coasts Hinterland which includes the wonderful Glasshouse Mountains (pictured above) first named by James Cook.
The hinterland includes the lovely township of Montville which is a very popular tourist attraction.

The whole Sunshine Coast area is very popular with local and overseas tourists and come the holiday seasons the place can get very crowded.

I love living here. Compared to the cities the people living on the coast are a lot more laid back and much friendlier.

Dave.

I live in Norwich ....

The Forum - home of the library, two restaurants,
a museum and BBC East

Norwich Market and St Peter Mancroft Church (where Mrs Bat and I got hitched)

Norwich Castle

The Norfolk countryside.

Norwich centre tends to get very busy so we avoid it as much as possible .... we like living in The East.

I've been stuck in Afghanistan for what seems like ages:

Maps, Weather, and Airports for Zarak, Afghanistan

It's pretty tough, but there are compensations:

I live in Billingham, the home of the 40 year old Billingham Forum,St Cuthbert's church (one of the oldest in England) and a derelict office building, which was once the Headquarters of ICI Agricultural Division worldwide, but is now a target for arsonists and travellers.

I don't think that I can compete with David, I'm afraid!
I have, however, just discovered that I live around the corner from several filming locations for: Goldfinger, Genevieve and Hell Drivers. and just a couple of miles from where: Gandhi, The Omen and Ali G Indahouse had scenes shot.

Pity it's such an awful place to live!

I live in SW London. In the Borough of Merton which was of course the home to Merton Park Studios - long since defunct but it's nice to see the old films they made there and to play "spot the location". A lot of the police dramas that they specialised in nearly always used to include a car chase down George Hill on the road from Morden to Epsom.

Nowadays, Merton is the home of Sun Hill in The Bill. Whenever we see policemen on the streets or police cars driving around we have to check to see if they are real or if they're filming an episode of The Bill.

The borough also includes Wimbledon which you may have heard of because they play a bit of tennis there sometimes. And Epsom is just down the road. That's where they do some horse racing like the original Derby.

But I don't live here for the filmic or the sporting connections, or because Morden is at one end of the longest underground railway in the world (continuously underground). I just like it here. I've always lived in SW London except when I was away at various colleges. My house was bought as new by my grandfather in 1937 and as I'm named after him there has only ever been a Stephen Crook on the deeds.

But the main reason I like it here is that it's the right balance (for me) of being close to the centre of London and still easy to get away to the countryside. And it's the part of London with the most open space. North Londoners might think that Hampstead Heath is quite big. But you could lose that many times over in places near here like Richmond Park, Wimbledon, Wandsworth and Clapham Commons which make a nice pathway of open space into London.

I used to go to school in the London Borough of Merton, Steve (Rutlish, before it went downhill - John Major was a few years above me!) Also used to have loads of relations in Morden (Bordesley Road).

We now live in Witney, Oxfordshire, on the edge of the Cotswolds. Witney used to be famous for blankets - if you still have any, chances are they were either made here, or they pinched the name! Nowadays there are no working mills left, and they have been converted to luxury flats and houses.

Flowing through the town (and one of the reasons the wool industry grew up here) is the evocatively named River Windrush, which is as pretty as it sounds.

If I knew how to show you a picture of the town - it is very attractive - I would!
