Default Police To Disband.

After all that hype about rock band Police reforming, the word is now out that the band will disband again for good.

The Police became the worlds highest grossing act in 2007. Their reunion world tour grossed an amazing $200 million.

Despite numerous reports that the band were to enter the studios and make a new album the members have now confirmed that this is not the case.

According to an interview in 'Rolling Stone' the band will split up again after their final show in July.

Call me cynical but this must be the biggest smash and grab cash hoist in rock history. No artistic integrity, just grab the money and run.

Dave.

Maybe they didn't have any new ideas to put in an album, its one thing to go on a reunion tour playing all the old favorites and something else to come up with some new music, a lot of effort involved there and I believe Stuart Copland and Sting hate each other, Copland once said of Sting, "his ego is so big you can see it from the moon!" So possibly not the best kharma for creating music together. I never really liked "The Police" even at the height of their success, Sting proved himself to be not too bad an actor though in a couple of films and TVs "brimstone and treacle".

Goodness me, when I read the title of this thread I thought the British Constabulary was going to disband.

They're all at it now. I doubt any do it to record more original music, it's probably for the money and thrill of playing in front of a large audence. Then, after a few months, the old tensions rise and they remember why they parted in the first place!

The Jam and The Smiths must reject some hefty offers to reform but would probably murder each other after a few weeks together.

Foxton and Buckler did some shows together featuring Jam songs but apparently Weller threatened to sue them if they carried on.

It's always heartwarming when bands you have good memories of turn out to despise the very essence of each other, isn't it? Particularly when you have all these interviews singing each others' praises in glowing terms...

This is why I never ever trust movie interviews - "We bonded and it was like family" blah blah blah. And then a year later they're telling you how awful the shoot was and how much they hated each other (and the movie). But the cash was good.

I rather miss the days when everyone did their job and went home and kept schtum about everything.

What's the word I'm looking for? Ah yes, "professionals".

Oh shite! The Spice Girls have also announced that after their current tour they will probably never perform live together again.

My whole world has just collapsed.

To be perfectly honest,I didn't know the Police had got back together. The only reformed group I was interested in was Led Zeppelin.

In the main, all these reformations do is tarnish the memories we have of these bands or acts at their peak. They will always happen while fans (some of who will have "missed out first time around") want to see these acts in the flesh for maybe the only chance they get. Also, many artists don't lose the urge to perform just because they have aged and on our part as well as nostalgia, there can be curiosity to see if they can still cut the mustard...
Usually though, it is just a money spinner without the inspiration that propelled these artists in the first place.
Remember your legends as they were...

I'm as mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore!

I totally agree David, it's all money for old rope, same goes for Spice girls, Take that, Boyzone and all the other relentless reunions (but I'll excuse the Eagles, always loved their stuff, still do!)

I'm glad I don't follow todays Music scene like I once did, avidly in the 70's and 80's........with no more Top of the pops, I can't!

Right, off to put on some Dusty!

I will speak up for Take That here. The comeback album was excellent pop music. Mrs Bat borrowed a DVD of their comeback tour and they were pretty damn good, we felt they were much better than they used to be.
