When it comes to the environment the bees are certainly the buzz word.

The albatrosses on Midway made the evening news last night. Not a Tesco bag in sight amidst the mountain of plastic debris collected by American volunteers on the beach, which seemed mostly related to fishing and shipping. It turns out a floating plastic cigarette lighter is a dead spit for the shape and size of the little squid that albatrosses are very fond of.

Midway lies in the middle of the Pacific, between the American west coast and the Chinese east coast. One of the American rangers said that the increasing amount of debris accumulating on the island's beaches via the ocean currents made him wonder if systematic dumping at sea was going on somewhere in that ocean circulation.

I've always wondered what's wrong with recycled paper bags.

Something to do with rain and falling to bits and all your stuff landing in a puddle I expect

I was watching a piece on Newsnight and apparently a large amount of our 'recycled' plastic is actually put on ships and sent to Germany or China. Not sure what the Germans do with it, but presumably the Chinese make it into plastic stuff and send it back to us........... .......

Or possibly chuck it all in the sea somewhere for the albatrosses to feed on.....

So all those Transformers toys in my house are the result of too many empty bottles of Asda Apple and Cranberry squash being sent to China.

I knew it was my own fault!

In lieu of our new garden waste specific wheelie bin (that's three wheelie bins we'll have now), the Council dropped of some bio-degradable brown paper sacks for grass cuttings etc They're very strong and ideal for a week's shopping, so why do shops give out plastic shopping bags when these are better?

Only three!

We have ... domestic waste, recyclable waste, garden waste, food waste. There's more bloody bins in my front garden than plants!

I'm waiting for a new Dr Who story where Daleks are replaced by hordes of exterminating wheelie bins roaming the streets! Or have they done that one already?

The first episode of the new series had Rose's boyfriend eaten by a wheelie bin and turned into a plastic person

There are nine planets in the solar system; Mercury, Venus, BONKERS!, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
So now we are to blame for the death of the albatross with a Tesco bag?
The answer is obvious, it is the rubbish deposited by ships of all kinds and being that merchant shipping has the minimal re human content it must be the very large numbers of Ferry passengers and being that they are not all leaning over the side rail throwing things overboard it must be the ship itself + Captain who is too lazy to take all the cans and shop purchased litter back to port? Now enter the shipping lines who are supposedly governed by governments (not the people!).

Billions of tons of plastic is manufactured for the transportation and rapping of goods of all kinds (everything it seems) both very large and small (thank God I am not paraplegic it still takes me forever to unwrap two radio batteries)
The numbers of black bin liners will far outstrip the total number of plastic bags and they are sponsored by Councils and finally, the clear and simple answer is the old STRING BAG

'You should be kind to us normals, there are not many of us left you know'!
