Thanks for the info!.......I thought it was something like that, but didn't realise Robert was referring to the Month of April!

Our SENSE OF HUMOUR is our best asset, we don't realise how famous we are for it... We're the best! We can bounce off anything! I emigrated, pined for it so much, I had to come back. There is no one like us. After realising just how precious it is and to be amongst it, I can put up with all the moaning about the weather and state of the country..

Just stumbled on this thread! So many good posts of this country's advantages. Looking at the pictures many feature the countyside and older towns etc.
My main worry as a country lad is that Governmemt does not seem to understand the countryside and its relationship with agriculture. when was the last time we had a
Prime Minister who had ever beem engaged with the land or for that matter ever worked in an industry. Rural areas are under pressure on many fronts. The loss of a Pub, Post Office or shop affects many people as each of those is a focal point.
This country has always had a sense of fair play but common sense seems a bit short nowadays.
Tonight I will have to visit my local pub about 15 mins walk away. I will have to sample one of the 6 or 7 localish Real Ales and of course put the world to rights. This will be my contribution to the local economy today. Of course I won't enjoy it but just doing my bit and hope others out there are doing the same!

Good for you Pitchfork.......and I'm sure you will enjoy it!, sounds a great way to spend an English Summer evening, I'm a little familiar with the area between Dorking and Guildford, a slice of olde England!

Guildford Cathedral, another great British building.........

Absolutely!.......not sure of the full story, but I don't think the Guildford Clergy were too happy about the Cathedral being in that Movie, though I thought it would have generated tourism (and probably did, and still does)........being 'modern', it's very 'less is more' inside

Whats great about Britain?

There are some things, but lets look at the other side!

- Gun Crime.
- Knifings.
- Drugs.
- Murder.
- Yobs.
- Bad Tax.

I could carry on, but the amount of things would cover 3 pages!

and can you believe yesterday, some 'Facebook' type of site was offering a 'Cyberstab a mate' option as part of it's service....

They removed it after protests........once in a while even I'm speechless.................................

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

The people who become ex-pats are doing the right thing.

If I could afford to get out I would.

What's great about Britain for me this week are all the kind words offered to me and mine over the death of our cat. Thanks to all of you who have lifted a little bit of the gloom in the Batcave.

"Boom boom a baby .... Banham Zoo .... Banana pants! Hahahaha"

You're welcome Bats........it's not easy losing a beloved Pet, they only have relatively short lives (unless it's a Tortoise!), I'm sure your Cat had a happy life, it's not easy but in time your Family will remember your Cat with fond memories, as I do of my beloved Thomas......
