Back to British love-nests, yesterday at work I had a number of charming young Englishmen purchase some gelato from me. They appeared to be part of a tour group. Anyways, the first young man required my help in picking out the proper change to pay for his gelato. The second man was sweet too but the third one was mmmmm short of wanting to ask him if he would like to come home with me. ;) He was very handsome, brown hair, hazel eyes, I want one.

Saw an interview with David Beckham a while ago and he was asked what he missed about England while he was living in the States.

His answer was English pubs and pie and mash.

No matter how much money he has it seems David still loves the simple things in life.

Dave.

Ah, the old reverse psychology ploy of pretending to not understand the money in a foreign country so that the nice assistant helps you out. Yes, I've used that one myself

Well ployed that man

Your wonderful capital city.

Do you know the power and appeal London has for those from outside Britain with an imagination and a love of history, literature and film?
I concur with you there!

Watching the evening news in Croydon some years back, there was an article about the state of the bins outside Tooting Bec station. The interviewer introduced someone with the title that was something like Counsellor for Waste Management in Merton.

Into frame steps Bill Bryson!

That made up for my fantasy borne out of boredom, of someone from Coronation Street cleaning the office windows in the background of a scene in the Dallas series, just to have something interesting to watch.

(I'd not forgotten the wonderful Sam Wannamaker for giving us The Globe Theatre of course.)

Well, if you told them I designed it, d'you think that might help?

Bill Bryson is now the President of the Campaign to Protect Rural England and is heading up a nationwide "Keep Britain Tidy" type of campaign

It is an unanswerable question, it is so many things to so many people. It is home and all that entails.
Those that move out tend to go to replicas of the UK, I include our European close neighbours. We do have an American work ethic forced upon us which is stressfull many people flee from that.

You mean Puritan work ethic don't you?

Exactly, something we thought we'd got rid of when all those Puritans left. And they didn't leave for religious freedom, they were quite able to do what they wanted to here. They left because they didn't like to see other people enjoying themselves

Hm, I wonder if there were any love-nests among those Puritans who came here?
