Default What's 'Great' about Britain!

Hi everyone!.......to counterbalance the 'Brits leaving UK in Droves' thread, I believe it's time we had a thread so we can post something positive and uplifting about Britain, it would be good to have input on this thread from all over the Globe as well.......here's just a few reasons why I love Britain and being British......

UK Movies (from all eras)
Public Houses
The changeable climate
Fish & Chip shops
Curry Houses
Britain's Musical heritage
Britain's beautiful architecture (my fave building is Liverpool Anglican Cathedral)
Britain's Countryside (Canterbury Tale comes to mind!)
Queen Elizabeth II
British Cuisine (particularly a full English Breakfast.......with Black pudding!)
Co-op 99 Tea!

oh, and when I'm 60 I'll get a free Bus pass for the entire Country......how many other Countries have that?

Excellent, Mark

Got to agree with several of yours:
UK Movies (from all eras)
Public Houses
The changeable climate
I'd love to say Fish & Chip shops but I've been vegetarian for nearly 20 years!
Rington's Tea and Yorkshire Tea!
The countryside - especially:
The Northumberland Coast
The Cuillin
The Cornish Coast
Wasdale

London - never thought I'd say that.
Durham Cathedral - the world's most beautiful building [IMNSHO!]
and, the perfect English Rose - Jenny!

I feel much better now.

All the best

You're right there, Faginsgirl!........I've always wondered why Britain and most Countries of the Commonwealth drive on the left, where as Europe, the Americas, etc; drive on the right.......can anyone shed any light on this?

The short list would probably be something like:
Stephen Fry
Richard Attenborough
Victoria Wood
Oh, and some chaps named Powell & Pressburger

The full list would take days to write

Why do some countries drive on the right and others on the left ?

Seems plausible.

I will add a comment from across the Atlantic:

What is positive about Britain? Where do I start? Hmmm.....

Your wonderful capital city.

Do you know the power and appeal London has for those from outside Britain with an imagination and a love of history, literature and film?

I was 26 when I landed at Healthrow for the first time, worried that I would be disappointed.

I was not. London is magic.

And I am a New Yorker born and bred - no stranger to cities and no fool when it comes to urban problems.

The fact remains: London is magic.

Hereafter, in a better world than this,
I shall desire more love and knowledge of you

Another great British Institution is the 47 year old soap opera 'Coronation Street', here's a couple of scenes from the 60's and 70's........
