Interesting. But his son hadn't heard Wilde's voice since he was 7 (and it's unrecognisable anyway!) so he might not be the best judge. But it does show how impossible it is to authnticate these things. Like the 6 Shakespeare signatures, all spelled differently!

The artist Picasso was once confronted by a small child at his restaurant table asking for an autograph and "cartoon" on a napkin. The child had been sent there by his mother who was at a table at the other end of the restaurant. Picasso dutifully obliged by drawing one of his typical cubist sketches and completed the work with his signature. The very happy little boy rushed back to his mother to eagerly show her the drawing which Picasso had done not on the napkin but on the childs tummy! Very clever.

I've sometimes even been talking to someone about their work and it seemed crass or just inappropriate to then go into "fan mode" and ask for an autograph - so I didn't. I just cherish the memory of the meeting and the conversation

All my autographs were from childhood when you didn't feel such a Charlie asking for them. .
