Why? Having insulted anyone with green credentials already, you now expect to be treated politely.

Yeah - that's obvious!

I haven't set out to 'insult' anyone Fell!........I do what 'Green' bit I can, such as sorting what our local Council wants us to recycle every week without fail such as Newspapers, Glass, and Cardboard, I can't do any more than that

My main gripe with the Green Party is their Taxation policy, as I've mentioned more Taxes will just aleniate ordinary working people as myself (Mondeo man if you like, what Blair needed to attract, and yes, Sis and I do have a Mondeo!)

I think I've paid enough Taxes in my 31 years of employment for me to be able to enjoy a couple of Holidays abroad without being made to feel guilty about it, I will never vote Green because even more of my hard earned Wages will be stolen in Tax........and that's how I feel!

In what way Captain?........turning down the Thermostat on the Central heating?.......done that!

Instead of going on about the Flatulence of Cows in Britain, maybe the Green Party (and I'm talking about the Party, not individuals) should
lobby the Governments of India and China about what their Green Policies are, and will be in their ever booming Economys, which are practically non-existant as far as I can see........

As for snow at Easter I remember so in April in the 50's so it's nothing new.

Everyone had an open fire , smoke poured into the atmosphere, we had smog so thick you couldn't see more a foot or so ( pea soupers ) but I don't remmeber having global warming.

No, it's not new, and it was an early Easter this year. Someone on Radio 4 read a passage from The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady where they talked about snow in April.

But given the general warming effect of the cities, when was the last time you saw snow in a big city like London? At any time of year let alone so late in the year? The last decent snowfall we had was in February last year, and that was the first for a long time. And I don't think we've had any this late in the year since the 1950s or 60s.

I read another theory recently (I think it's theory number 125) that a lot of the unusual weather patterns on earth recently are due to increased sun spot activity on the sun.
The doom sayers reckon that the sun has been very volatile over the last few years and that alone could lead to more disasters on earth. Hurricane Katrina happened at a time of intense solar flare activity on the sun.
Of course extremely intense solar flare activity can wipe out things like our satellite communications and power grids.

The famed Mayan calender finishes on December 21st 2012. Did they know something that we don't?

Dave.

There was plenty of snow in April in the Southeast in 2006. London doesn't have a complete different weather system from the rest of the country, it's just the heat from all the buildings tends to raise the temperature slightly. There's a similar snowfall most years - one doesn't always notice it since it tends to be gone by lunchtime!

The Conspiracy theory that Global warming is a con is an interesting one.
Notable scientists like Nigel Calder, claim that man's percentage contribution to greenhouse gases even now is very small and this point was highlighted in the documentary film The Great Global Warming Swindle.
Here he cited among other reasons that Sunspot activity was and always has been a major contributor to the pattern of the Earth's climate.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle1363818.ece

The argument is ultimately whether the percentage increase in artificial greenhouse gases will get to any discernible levels where it tips the balance of that which is churned out naturally from the Earth, such as water vapour from the Oceans and methane gas from Cattle.
This at current rates seems exteremely unlikely.
Nevertheless "Greening" one's society should be the goal of all responsible human beings.
The current political bandwagon advocating these measures has been a long time in coming.
I would not like to comment on whether or not it is a"conspiracy" in an attempt to prevent Third World economies from develpoing along similar models to China.

You're right there Dave!........I recall in June 1975 there was quite a heavy Snowfall in Southern England, I don't recall hearing much about Global warming back then!.......plus the vast majority of Cars then ran on Leaded fuel, plenty of lead being pumped into the atmosphere, at least that's virtually over, though I have to admit that leaving a TV set on standby being harmful was something I had no knowledge of.

The World's population is increasing, naturally, by Millions each year, the Earth will cope.......it always has

What does it harm? It uses more electricity than most people realise, but it doesn't use all that much. How is it actually harmful?

This subject came up during 'fire safety training' at work.

The fire officer claimed that to leave electrical items on standby caused a build of 'electrical energy' which was harmful to the atmosphere.

When questioned about this he didn't seem to be able to follow it up except to say it is a 'very serious' fire hazard.

All the literature etc that I have seen about this concentrates on energy wastage and fire safety with no mention of 'harmful energy'.
