And celebrities. I would trust them more if they stood for something they really believed in....and didn't make a song and dance about it.

We have always had sunspot minimum and sunspot maximum in an 11 year cycle. It's nothing new. They are not actually absent there just aren't as many as there were at the sunspot maximum.

Sunspots also effect radio waves especially short waves and this cycle seems to have dipped much lower than in the past but no doubt the upturn will start soon. The expets say that should occur 2009/2010.

There is a site somewhere on www where you can check the index daily, not of much interst unless you are a broadcaster or a radio ham.

Whatever happened to that bloke who used to do 'alternative' weather reports? One or more tabloids featured him alongside the Met Office reports, for quite a while and he was touted as being much more accurate.................. He supposedly based all his predictions on sunspot activity I seem to remember. Never hear of him now.....................

Actually, that makes sense. If you have parched ground from a prolonged dry spell followed by sudden heavy rain over a short period (climate change is supposed, the theory goes, to bring extremes of weather) then the ground can't absorb the water and it runs off, causing floods.

Someone who actually knows about these things can feel free to prove me wrong...

The drought guys reckoned they'd had no rain for over five years........... My guy said it hadn't stopped raining for about five weeks...............

I think he lives on the coast - probably like Kent and Gwynedd............

Sunspot activity was innacurately blamed for the sudden increase in heat at the start of The Day The Earth Caught Fire.

We're all doomed!

Some do. But because they don't make a song and dance about it you rarely hear of them
