Default Red Arrows Olympic Ban

I received this e-mail today, if it's true then I'm emigrating back in time to about 1963 I think!

"God preserve us from politicians...

Please forward this to as many people as possible!!! (British Citizens)

The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London Olympics because they are deemed 'too British'.

Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be 'offensive' to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team 'too militaristically British.' Red Arrows pilots were said to be 'outraged', as they had hoped to put on a truly world class display for the Games, something which had never been seen before. Being axed from a British-based event for being 'too British' is an insult - the Arrows are a symbol of Britain.

The Red Arrows have been excellent ambassadors for British overseas trade, as they display their British-built Hawk aircraft all over the world.

The Arrows performed a short flypast in 2005 when the winning bid was announced, but their flypast at the Games was to have been truly spectacular.

It is to be hoped that common sense prevails.

If you disagree with this decision, sign the petition on the link
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/RedArrows2012/?ref=redArrows2012

Forward this on to everyone you can.
What the hell is this country coming to? "

(Besides, military jet flying is probably the only event we'll get a gold medal in!)

Especially as it looks like it was the BNP that started it.
Are they now dictating headlines to the Sun?

Indeed.

I can quite understand Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells, Col [ret.] falling for it but I'm surprised that Sam didn't at least do a cursory search to reveal its providence - or lack of

The Red Arrows will be there, I've no doubt, it's a bit like saying 'ban the Proms' coz they're too British, that'll never happen either

When Politicians, Newspapers, or anyone in the Public eye allegedly say something detrimental about any organisation or instution, all it does it stir up emotions and make people think they're gonna lose something they wouldn't otherwise have given a second thought about.

(Oh, and I've made a serious concious decision today to stop buying the Daily Mail also, within the past fews years there's been many a time I wish I hadn't read things that I have read in it, and it's just left me feeling completely exasperated, having read all the posts of recent months about the Media I can see I've been manipulated and brainwashed by this Paper, if I want to know any News I'll look on the Internet........you know, I already feel like a ton weight has been lifted from my shoulders!)

It is the sort of thing you would expect though in these days of "polih-ih-cull correck-ness gorn mad!" so if it isn't true now rest assured one day it probably will be!

Why is it assumed that anybody who doesn't buy a paper is a freethinker
and those who do aren't.
And that the internet is the sole source of reliable information.

Read anything you want and make your own mind up.

Who assumes that?
It takes a bit more than whether you buy a paper or not.

And the internet certainly isn't the sole source of reliable information. It's the source of more mis-information than anything else
