Not at all sure what you mean, I thought Steve's Al Capone quip was very amusing. Not only is humour allowed on the site, I would say in some instances it should be activley encouraged!

Yes, so was Madeley. I was pointing out some men that got rough treatment by the newspapers - before they were tried.

I don't think gender comes into it in this context. If you go down the celebrity/media route it's so easy to set yourself up for a fall through your actions or attitude, and when it happens the press are merciless.

I've noticed that the old syndrome of attractive women in the workplace getting treated rather too well in terms of promotion and getting away with doing very little is still very common. Fluttering the eyelashes and showing a bit of cleavage works wonders for ingratiating themselves with male senior management, and I don't suppose it will ever change.

They build up a vocabulary of buzz words and technical terms which gives them enough credibility to get through meetings unscathed, and then when they are one to one with a male colleague they put on the little lost girlie routine so the colleague feels obliged to help out and does the work for her.

They were indeed, as was Piggott .... IIRC once Doddy's trial started his 'lovable old eccentric' persona turned the tide in his favour.

Wasn't Isobel Barnett was on the rough of some bad press when she got into trouble with the law?

Does anyone know how Pat Roc fared during her spot of bother?

I have a certain sympathy for the likes of John Leslie, found innocent but a career trashed because of some unnamed allegations to sell a book.

I've little sympathy for many named in this thread who have sold themselves to the tabloids.

re mark o s comments ,the queen of means attitude was her undoing ,i remember her saying ,taxes are for little people ,didnt endear her to the public much ,as for isobel barnet if that shoplifting offence was today ,theyd invent a disorder for her and shed be on tv talk shows galore talking about her ordeal ,as they did with richard madely ,its just how times change

AFAIK JL has never tried to cash in on his 'notoriety' which earns him bonus points from me.
