With the demise of Myra Hindley there appears to be a need for certain sections of society to maintain a female hate figure. Maxine Carr and Rose West at one time or another seemed to be likely candidates, although at the moment Heather Mills seems to be making all the running - one member of this forum wanted to bury her alive!

It seems that the men in most high profile cases do not have as rough a ride as the women, Kate McCann and Karen Matthews are two prime examples. What is about today’s society that wants to give the female of the species such a hard time, or has it always been thus?

It depends on whether you believe people like Heather Mills or Maxine Carr are being given a hard time simply because they are naughty women or whether the fact that they are female is coincidental to the fact that one is a hysterical lying gold digger and the other is an accessory to the sexual assault and murder of two children! Can't say I feel particularly sorry for the hard time they are getting!

Maxine Carr wasn't charged with being an accessory to the sexual assault and murder of two children - if she had been, she'd almost certainly still be in jail. She was charged with giving a false alibi but not of assisting an offender as the courts accepted she had no idea of Huntley's guilt.

That's exactly why so many people think women get a hard time in the media.

Okay, but if her boyfriend is arrested on suspicion of murdering two children why tell lies and give him a false alibi? If the police or courts believed her lies then her boyfriend may have escaped justice, if she was protecting her boyfriend and he had been suspected of a bank robbery you could almost understand her rationale, but the accusation was the murder of two children.The media was bound to have a go at her, I still don't have a lot of sympathy for Maxine Carr.

You can't court the media then complain afterwards. I can't really comment on the above two as the facts of their cases are still unclear.

Don't get me started on glass ceilings, male herd instincts, "women are slags, men are lads", or "women are aggressive, men are assertive" etc etc etc ad infinitum.

In general, I'm not sure gender has much to do with, it's their actions that do for them. I think, for example, that Ian Huntley remains a number one hate figure.

Women murderers do tend to achieve a certain status, perhaps because it's so unusual; and if kids are involved it goes against everything we believe of women being nurturers.

I'm not fixed on these ideas, sort of pondering it and writing at the same time.

Women, god bless them all, do a get bad press and all because of one or two bad ones who go out of their way to screw a guy out of his hard earned dosh. Heather Mills did nothing worth mentioning apart from bearing a daughter which I am sure Paul will love and miss so much.

As for Heather Mills, burying her alive? Yes but do it in a pit full of killer ants. To say that she cannot ever find work is just ridiculous. MacDonalds will hire anyone!

I think the courts ruled joint custody for their daughter so Sir Paul may not have to miss his daughter as much as fathers often do in cases of separation and divorce.

Joint custody means absolutely nothing. The mother will always have THE say for the father is in fear of speaking out in case he is seen to be menace towards the wife or family. I know of so many good guys who left my former company beause to continue working meant having nothing at all. By going on the dole, meant he did not have to worry, everything would be paid for by us, by those living in the UK and are members on this website.

I don't think women are helped by the proliferation of "Glenda Slagg" type journalism by the likes of Carole Malone, Ulrika Jonsson, Lorraine Kelly, Carol McGiffin and others.
These people will always jump harder on a fellow woman.
Add in the righteous Littlejohn and Gunt, and men's higher expectation of women, and the bucket's tipped at an even steeper level.
With regard to Heather Mills, I'm mystified that her disability seems to be used as a stick with which to beat her, and also as an object of great mirth.
Had a sympathetic person lost a leg, it would have been regarded as a great tragedy, and he or she would under great threat of being buried in an avalanche of "Great British Bravery Awards".

I can recall two Woman who were 'slaughtered' by the Media, in my view simply because they were Women........

'What's my line panellist' Lady Isobell Barnett was literally torn apart by the Tabloids of the time purely because of an alledged Shoplifting Offence which happened in her Village Shop, and because she was seen as 'Posh', would a Man in the public eye be treated the same way?.........I doubt it (if it ever was Shoplifting, in all probability she just forgot to pay for something) the poor Woman drowned herself in her Bath

Leona 'Queen of mean' Helmsley, same sort of thing happened to her in the States for Tax evasion, for which she recieved a highly publisised Jail term and became a hate figure, at least she never murdered anyone..........how many Men recieve high publicity Jail terms for Tax evasion, assuming they're ever caught!
