The Monkees Marky
A completely manufactured band with limited talent.
I remember when they were at the height of their popularity and some fools in the media were tipping them to be bigger than the Beatles.

Dave.

The Monkees had some great songwriters working for them and they came up with some terrific records ... 'Daydream Believer' being one of them.

Mike Nesmith in particular went on to write some pretty songs including the quite beautiful 'Different Drum' sung by Linda Rondstadt.

Dr Feelgood (original line-up); the only band generating any excitement at all in the dreary years of 'glam' rock before punk happened. I saw them at the Hammersmith Odeon but missed a chance to catch them at Southend - always regretted it

Did see The Pirates in the 80's playing an eardrum-bleeding gig at Dingwalls.

Would have liked to catch The Animals before they came down from Newcastle and, of course, Johnny and The Moondogs . . .

I saw The Wilko Johnson Band, who were brilliant.
I've still got Down by the Jetty by DF on vinyl.

I saw the Johnson and Mayo incarnations of DF, both brilliant. I also saw Wilko in Norwich a few years ago ... still tremendous.

A great gig at The Waterfront in Norwich has just been announced for October ...

Focus - Wishbone Ash - The Groundhogs.

Be there or never claim to be an old hippie ever again!

uni & The pirates at the Free trade Hall in the late 70's. Two great nights.

Neil Diamond being one of them. Yes,Dave they were manufactured, and not a patch on the Beatles, indeed with comparitively little talent, but their songs are still remembered and known by today's young generation.

I listened to the latter half of the programme in my office at work last night. I must admit,I didn't know much about her,but I gather she didn't have much confidence in herself, which caused some depression. Listening to her voice, although not quite a fan yet,she really under estimated herself. A great loss and one can only wonder where she would have been now.

Not great as a documentary - too many mistakes, glossing over and biases - and Trevor Lucas was unfairly demonised - but hopefully a decent introduction. Her voice was one thing...her songwriting another again. Have fun exploring.....if you would like some advice on where to start and what to avoid...
