It seems that GB's backdown on the 10p tax is in parts so complicated that few people can understand it. It has got the rebels off his back for the time being though.

Surely in the long run it would have been more cost effective to leave things as there were.

Think of all the paperwork and man hours to issue this 'conpensation'. Leaflets to be printed etc.

What a fiasco yet again. Still they have to raise £12bn for the Olympics from somewhere.

Yes but as a 'Londoner' you'll be paying for a lot of it one way or another.

with all the complicated concessions theyre thinking of to help out people wholl be affected by the abolition of the 10p rate ,wouldnt it have been easier to have just left it alone in the first place ?

That's the thing that politicians find the hardest to do - to leave something alone.
They always think that they must be seen to be doing something. Even if they know that thing is pointless or even a bad idea

And leave it to the blandest man in politics to take the flack - Alastair Darling. A man who would merge into a magnolia wall.

The Pensioners affected will get probably it back through their winter fuel allowance, it's the under 25 singles that has yet to be solved.

I believe 'the financial services industry' is now the biggest single segment in the country. I've no idea what it is (maybe I should consult a financial advisor), but clearly any government would be panic-stricken if such a swathe of British industry appears to be in peril.

What was it they said about the love of money and something evil this way coming?............
