The Incredible String Band.....about five years or so ago. Sometimes you should never go back...they were always, er, loose, but this was underrehearsed and poor. Very disappointing.

Jess Conrad at "the birdcage" in Ashton under lyne in the late 70,s.

We were warned not to talk during cabaret by some beefy bouncer.

All that did was encourage muffled giggles which enhanced our

entertainment somewhat.

Actually Steve, I saw them in a nightclub in Brum circa 1972 and they were quite entertaining.

Much better than Bucks Fizz.

I also remember taking a girlfriend to a David Essex concert for her birthday.
We were seated in the second row from the front of the stage and I was the only bloke in that area to be seen. There were young women everywhere, screaming and swooning.
David Essex wasn't too bad (when I could hear him) but the whole concert was a bit embarrassing for me, being stuck in the middle of all those screaming girls.

Imagining that I was a top reporter from Melody Maker covering the concert certainly helped me get through it.

Dave.

Jethro Tull. I'd somehow missed them turning into a very loud heavy rock band from the early 70s band I remembered. A work colleague persuaded me to see them at the NEC Birmingham - I was deafened!

I had the same experience with Barclay James Harvest.

A friend of mine inveigled me into going to a jazz club in Brighton.

I lasted until the minute the band started playing and then like a News of the World reporter in a massage parlour, made my excuses and left...

The two worst bands I've seen on stage were Edison Lighthouse and The Barron Knights.

I used to like the Barron Knights spoof records but on stage they were shite.

I'm ashamed to say that I once fell asleep during a George Benson concert.

I found the John Martyn live experience similarly insomnia-curing....

I went to see the Rolling Stones before they were big in a dump of a hotel in Hamilton, heard nothing as there were loads of counterfeit tickets sold so the hall was packed and people were fainting all over the place, horrible experience, never to be forgotten.
