Yes, I can't even be bothered to read about her or watch her when she appears on the News.........I'm not familiar with her singing either, I only know the song 'Rehab'........which just about sums up everything!

Default We Are The Media

Excellent Mark O.
If someone annoys you why not just ignore them!
We live in age where we worship meaningless celebrity. Where else in the world would someone like Jade Goody rise to prominence and dominate oceans of newsprint by proudly displaying ignorance and poor manners!
We feast on the daft carry on of people like Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty and blame "the media". The media isn't just the collected publishers of this garbage - it's all of us as well because we just can't get enough.
Whose worse - self destructive "celebrities" or the rest of us who give them some kind of significance?!!

The question is does Amy Winehouse get on your nerves and for me the answer is No.

Although her drug use is self inflicted, it's the media's relentess pursuit of putting people on a pedestal, judging them and feeding off them which I despair of.

You look at other great female singers such as Billie Holliday and Edith Piaf. Both suffered with drink and drug problems which led to their premature death but their musical legacy is remembered far more than the manner of how they lived their lives. You don't put newspaper headlines on the turntable.

Amy Winehouse has a unique voice and hopefully she can overcome her demons.

regards
Freddy

Easy to judge her, but had I had success at 21 and a load of money thrown in my direction, I'd have probaby drunk/snorted/sha**ed my way back into obscurity.

im sure edith piaf and billie holliday would have been a bit more subtle about their drink or drug intake ,im not knocking amys singing or songwriting ,just the fact shes obviously out of it all the time ,what sort of message does it send to the kids ?

The only difference between AW, EP and BH is the AW has cameras trailing her 24/7 to ensure they are on the spot when she messes up. EP and BH both suffered from chronic dependencies on alchohol and drugs which eventually killed them. Neither were subtle about it .... both turned up for concerts stoned and/or pissed and were booed off stage, just like AW.

you could probably catch any rock star out of it on drink or drugs ,perhaps its her pr or management to blame for it being so obvious ,as for the waste of blood and organs that is pete doherty , being out of it seems to be the only thing he has to offer ,like i said at the start of this thread at least other hellraisers put some work in before pressing the self destruct button ,amy and potty pete havent done that much ,in fact doherty has done nowt other than being a celebrity junky ,and its the being famous for nothing other than being smashed all the time that annoys me most about these two

So you are saying that it is OK for people to behave in that fashion, but only if they have 'put some work in first'.

AW has won numerous awards for her songwriting, her recordings and her live performances. By your logic, I reckon she's earned a few benders.

it just seems strange that you can be the "hell raising rock star "without just being the rock star first ,keith moon ,john bonham etc at least put the groundwork in first , they were stars who were larger than life and carried the wild man of rock act out with panache ,potty pete and amy look pathetic ,tragic even ,it eventually killed moon and bonham ,how long till it kills them ? they dont seem to be able to cope with that lifestyle ,so a good idea would be to pack it in ,but would they still get the recognition sober ?which is the point im trying to make ,i dont like the idea of a celebrity junky

So we gathered

Keith Moon was a wild man from the beginning. He was well known for it. Fame and money just let him smash up fancier hotel rooms and drive more expensive cars into bigger swimming pools!

You might not like her work but many people think that Amy Winehouse is a great musician

I really couldn't care less about her, her druggy boyfriend or her singing career. I've no sympathy for these young millionaires that go off the rails. If the overdose is on its way, then I certainly won't shed a tear when it happens.

On a much happier note, Springsteen is coming to Manchester in May.

woohoo!

What's the cut-off point for someone suffering from drug addiction to be worthy of sympathy? If Amy only had £900,000 would she deserve another chance?
