Actually, the drivers and other staff, on both mainline and underground, appreciate the newspapers left on the trains because it means that they don't have to buy them; they pick them up and distribute them in the staff canteens - a fantastic example of recycling.

If you are appalled by the freesheets, then may I suggest that you contact your Mayor and complain to him about it?

Or is that because you stay in the first class dining car and never mix with the hoi poloi (even though saying "the hoi polloi" is grammatically incorrect and a repetition of the word "the")

Steve
Na, I don't mix with the hoi poloi, Im in the cheap seats where I belong Anyone can go to the dining car even if you have bought a very cheap advance 2nd class ticket, its a nice way to pass an hour or so, especially if my other half is with me. I took my girlfriend to Paris on Eurostar Ist class a couple of years ago as a birthday treat but I got a special deal including hotel that was not a lot more than a standard ticket. Im justifying all this as I would hate to give the impression that I am an affluent snob traveller who frequents 1st Class, cos Im ceratainly not but to answer your question, I have honestly never seen anyone drunk on that Edinburgh train, either outward or on the return leg, I always travel at about 11ish in the morning, everyone seems remarkably sober!

Only with young girls who are drunk. I remember stopping one woman charging back into the club (a good few years ago) to have fisticuffs with another woman and I held two hands out to stop her. Two things on her landed right in my hands. She never complained mind. In fact whenever she sees me,she gives me a coy smile.
Seriously, sorting out two women fighting is like parting two lionesses.
