Interesting times ahead.

When I was down in London a few weeks ago no-one I knew gave Boris a chance. This result is as perverse, unexpected and yet as entirely wilful as the city itself.

Isn't there a Pagan May Day tradition that the Fool becomes King, supposedly for a day, but even Boris should last longer than that!

Could be just the sort of episode a Peter Ackroyd of the future will find much to ponder on...

i dont think its unexpected ,gordon brown done boris a huge favour in the last couple of weeks with the 10p tax debacle ,and another boost this week because its eventually been deciphered that for people who own 2001 onwards cars , they may see their road tax double and the value of the car crumble as a result ,nice ! ,just the right message at election time , i bet ken is seething with the incompetence of his cohorts in whitehall ,people have delivered a protest vote against them ! even i would have thought ken would have won a few weeks ago

Thank the Lord. The wind of change has started to blow. Perhaps we won't have to emigrate after all.

Ken Livingston certainly thought Boris was a clown, didn't take him seriously enough at all, sheer arrogance or stupidity on Kens part, whatever way you look at it Boris turned out to be a serious contender. I bet Ken is wishing he took him more seriously at the beginning but it probably wouldn't have mattered , London wanted a change and expressed that with their votes. Hope Boris is up to the job, time will tell I suppose, good luck to him. I think London needs a change, Ken did his bit, time for him to go and thank goodness I say!

I think Ken was the only one who did take Boris seriously as a threat.
He was saying that even in some of the earlier interviews during the campaign.
But many of Ken's team might not have taken him as seriously as they should.

And remember that the voting had to go to the second round so it's far from all of London that wanted a change

I hope Boris can show that he's not the clown and the fool I think he is

Good luck to the bloke, I hope he does a good job for all Londoner's.

As an outsider though, living in Australia, I must say that Boris does seems a bit of an eccentric bumbler and I'm sure he will cause plenty of controversy during his reign.
With the Olympics coming to London in 2012 Boris will no doubt get a lot of world wide publicity. I'm not sure that he is the type of person to represent London in that regard.

Dave.

Boris? Controversial? Surely not.

He was the one who published an editorial which, using British hostage Kenneth Bigley as an example, claimed the inhabitants of Bigley's home city of Liverpool were wallowing in a "vicarious victimhood"; that many Liverpudlians had a "deeply unattractive psyche"; and that they refused to accept responsibility for "drunken fans at the back of the crowd who mindlessly tried to fight their way into the ground" during the Hillsborough disaster, a contention at odds with the findings of the Taylor Report.

He was the one who likening Tory leadership disputes to "Papua New Guinea-style orgies of cannibalism and chief-killing"

He was the one who said Portsmouth was "one of the most depressed towns in Southern England, a place that is arguably too full of drugs, obesity, underachievement and Labour MPs"

He's a natural diplomat

And then he got really racist. All this was after he had been recorded discussing how to hire a thug to beat up someone who had crossed a friend. I'm sure this was all reported in the Evening Standard.... Boris bought Gilligan pretty cheaply....he was the only one to give him a job after the BBC sacked him for his part in David Kelly's death...and Gilligan has repaid him by helping the London Daily Mail slur Ken. I'm not a Ken fan, but if it wasn't obvious to Londoners how much London has improved since Ken has been in office, then it was to the rest of us. Boris couldn't manage his way out of a paper bag...and I'm afraid all Londoners, and those who visit, are going to suffer years of stagnation and decline in our capital.

I think Boris will provide a few good laughs along the way but he might surprise us all and do well in the job and call me Dave will be keeping a beady eye on him
