Fortunately, being outdoors playing sport is a lot healthier than being stuck in front of the TV all the time.

That said, I can assure you not all Aussies are interested in sport, and that happens to be one aspect of TV that really gets up my nose, especially in the cricket season. ABC = Always Bloody Cricket.
From the posts I've read by SamKydd and others, what we get here can't be too much worse than what you get in the UK.
We have three commercial channels and the ONLY shows I'm watching on any of them at the moment are repeats of The Vicar of Dibley. Generally, those three channels cater for the Lowest Common Denominator - as do the ads. of course, however, in fairness I must say there are occasional ads which are very good.
Very occasional.
Fortunately, we have a lot of good programmes on the ABC (including many from the BBC) and our multicultural channel SBS supplies us with plenty of foreign films; both the ABC and SBS provide us with excellent current affairs programmes and documentaries.
So it's not
all bad!
