Having Trouble Getting Served In Pubs - Britmovie

Between the ages of 18 and 21, I used to get embarssed if I was asked my age when I walled in to apub. This was in the late seventies and early eighties long before customers were able to provide their ID.

When I was 21, the police stopped me but my Mum always said gave them your home telephone number.

Idid get really sensitive about this and when I ever I went out of an evening would got out with my birth certficate and my NHS medical card.

I felt forming some society to help young lads and lassies like me who looked too young to be drinking but were genuinely over 18. It was especially fraught when I walked into pubs I had never been before,

The last time I was asked was when I was 24.

I am 48 now but I rarely get asked these days.

I was last asked my age, not in a pub, but almost as bad. When I bought a tube of Bostick in Woolies. The till told the robot behind the counter to check my age so she asked "Are you over 18?" I was over 50 at the time!

I was in New York a couple of years ago and was asked for ID in a bar before being allowed to drink and I wasn't even buying! I was aged 40. I think its the norm over there regardless of how old or young you look but I like to think it was because of my boyish youthfull looks and I felt vert flattered because the barmaid "sure was pretty" as they might say in the US

Bizzare set of circumstances in Paignton, Devon 1975. I was 16. Me and my friends went to a night club (a culture which I personally loathed )and having got past the gorillas on the front door, proceeded to the bar.
The female bartender (a far younger version of Julie Goodyear)looked at me and said out loud.........'are you 18?'
My unconvincing acknowledgement seemed to convince her and she duly served me. Personally I thought she was just making mischief.

Not a pub, but a betting shop, which has similar under-18 rules, but U-18's aren't allowed in past the door.....
Small shop in a village called Hartley Wintney....I strolled up towards the counter, and was within a couple of yards when the middle-aged lady behind the till asked, fairly aggressively, if I was 18, because I didn't look it.....I went red, but stammered out, "Actually, I'm 20, and I'm your new manager...."
Oh, how we laughed.....

The oher day a woman stopped me outside ASDA , she was doing a survey and she asked me if I was over 50, I'm 63 .

I directed her to the optirions.

Some years ago my daughter in law then in her late 20's , she had her 7 yr old son with her and she was refused a ticket at the lottery machine because the cashier wouldn't believe she was old enough to buy a ticket.
