Default ever had the whole cinema to yourself ?

suppose this might fit in with panned films you enjoyed ? it happened to me once ,was outnumbered by usherettes ! they were looking at me ,i was looking at them ,are they paid commission on the choc ices they sell ? one usherette stood either side of the aisle anyway .couldnt enjoy the film and its not an experience id like to repeat ! maybe if you were a fan of british cinema in its leaner times its perhaps something youve got immune to ?

It's happened to me on lots of occasions because I go a lot on weekday afternoons. I haven't seen an usherette inside a cinema (other than to watch a bit of the film) for many years so I've always enjoyed the experience. Far more pleasant than when one other person comes in and sits directly in front of you (or, as has happened, in the adjacent seat!)

I once had the Circle at the Odeon Leicester Square to myself, with a friend. We watched "Licence to Kill' in splendid isolation, the only Bond film I ever saw at the cinema.

The last time was for Island of Doctor Moreau with Marlon Brando at the Odeon in Norwich.

I did share a whole cinema with Barry Norman and his assistant once.In the 1980s I was sent to take a photographic portrait of film critic Barry Norman to accompany an article in a magazine. It was arranged with Barry Norman's representative that he would be available at 10am in the morning at a private cinema in London's Golden Square soho which was owned by Golan Globus. I arrived at the appointed time with my assistant and was ushered into a room by some black suited dodgy looking middle eastern gangsters who were working with Golan Globus! Said hello to Barry who was very charming and friendly and I suggested we crack on with the photos so as not to take up too much of his time. Barry Norman looked surprised and said, "oh...Ithought we would be doing the photos later on as I have a film to watch here in about 10 minutes" He was indeed there to watch a movie which he would be reviewing in his next programme, I said that we could disapear and kill time somewhere and come back in a couple of hours but Barry very kindly said that we would be welcome to join him in the cinema and watch a movie. Unfortunatley the film was Dolph Lundgrens "Masters of The Universe" and Barry's mood understandably changed from being quite chirpy to mildly annoyed at having to sit through this tripe for an hour and a half. He kept apologising for inviting us to sit through such a terrible film and said things like " its a shame it wasn't "the Untouchables" you had come to see", which was in fact the last film he had watched before being subjected to the present torture. Anyway, surreal experience all the same being in a fairly large cinema with Mr Norman and no-one else except his assistant and mine, Barry chain smoking throughout and making hilariously cutting and sarky comments which he would never be able to repeat on his programme about the film we were watching.

London 1982.
Can't remember the Cinema but it was a weekday afternoon.
I saw 'One flew over the cuckoos nest'. About halfway through a big fat bloke wandered in and sat about 3 or 4 rows in front of me. Never stopped stuffing himself with popcorn.

Many years ago we took the kids ,(and the Mother in law ) to see the disney film, The little mermaid .Knowing that the MIL suffers with cramp I reserved seats at the front of the circle ,which had more leg room.
We couldn't help but laugh when we saw our seats, with big reserved notices on them and not another living soul in the cinema

I May be getting older ,but I refuse to grow up

For those of you who enjoy being in a large cinema alone I would suggest a visit to "The Curzon", Mayfair on Curzon Street W1, on any afternoon of the week. Its one of the largest screens in London and if you enjoy foreign language art films this is the place to be.....zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

The Big Blue alone in front of a vast screen...

I worked in a cinema for a brief period that did midnight screenings on a Friday night. For one show no-one turned up at all - The Fly II , which wasn't that bad I thought, but we got to go home early!

No Blade of Grass - a Greenpeace showing - and even Greenpeace didn't show up - I hope they were off saving whales or some such. Stoke-on-Trent.

The Elephant Man probably about day three after it opened, ABC Shaftesbury Avenue, London - I thought "that's it, the cinema is doomed".

Order of Death/Assault on Precinct 13 London cinema...Screen on Baker Street perhaps...?

Fantasia the re-scored version - cinema near Oxford Circus, Scenes or Studio...possibly?

Patron on phone: "Hello, Can tell me when the movie starts?"
cinema manager: "When can you get here?"
