Default ITV hit with record £5.68m fine

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | ITV hit with record £5.68m fine

I wonder how much they made though before/during and after the scandel broke ? Probably well enough to pay that fine imo.

Didn't they have to refund much of the phone charges and the fine is a punishment? Im sure I read that they were ordered to pay the money back that they made from consumers.

I bet if I pinched millions of pounds the police would be involved and I'd end up in court. Life just isn't fair!

I really don't get it. Why do mindless people want to phone in to a TV programme and vote. I mean they're spending their hard earned dole money and seeing no return. Are these the same simpletons who go to a TV studio and watch programmes like 'You've been framed'and sit and watch TV monitors when they could be doing that at home?

It's got better....apparently at the 2005 British Comedy Awards, the organisers were desperate for a big-name presenter for the 'People's Choice ' phone-in award.....Robbie Williams agreed, as he was a huge fan of Ant and Dec, and they were a shoo-in.....so they fly Robbie in, and Robbie presents the award to Ant and Dec, live on TV......
Only one problem; apparently, Catherine Tate won the phone vote..... and the manure is just reaching the air conditioning as we speak....see tomorrow's Guardian.

Apparently ITV made 7.8 million from the uncounted votes so it makes you wonder just how many people phone in and just how much the total was . Is this just a way of getting the people who watch the program ( or at least some of them ) to pay for the making of it. No wonder many of these talentless personalities get such big bucks for doing very little.

It gets me when they do the lottery. They get some 'celebrity' to press the button and it's blatantly obvious that the so called adjuicator starts the machine up AFTER they have preformed this so called task.

They must think we are all bonkers.

Not everyone, but the majority, certainly. And judging by the number of people that call these phone vote lines, they're not far wrong

And none of this latest kerfuffle seems to be about the late night quiz shows with impossible to answer questions where you only have a 1:10 (at best) chance of getting through to the studio - but you still have to pay, even if you don't get to play

earlier poster is dead right on the lottery thing - this has appeared in the press before. The celeb presses a button and then someone back stage presses something that makes the machine work !! Bizarre.

You mean you wasted it by calling the vote line? So what's new?

Well that's just revenge for ITV taking a holier-than-thou line when the Beeb got fined. I like the way the newspapers are also having a go at them. They'll probably be fined next for all their pointless premium rate vote lines. Especially the ones that give people a "don't know" option when they ask people to vote if they are outraged by a news story. But people do actually phone in and vote that they don't know!

And I did like the headline in the Daily Wail "Can you believe anything on ITV?"
That from the Daily Hate Mail!!

there was a great tv show called restoration which ,rumour has it ,has been shelved because of the rigging on other shows .it was the only tv show i ever voted on . [ and it will be the last ] not all of these shows were trash .does anyone know what will become of the two posh architects in restoration ? marrianne and ptolomy [ a silent p ,like the one in sink ] does obscurity beckon ? shame cos it was an enjoyable show and you could learn something
