What a fabulous selection of songs. A couple of popular songs that I would throw into the pot are........ The Man With The Child In his Eyes by Kate Bush and Blue Eyes by Elton John.

But three of my all time favourites would have to be Senza Mamma from Puccini's Suor Angelica (and it would have to be sung by the late great Lucia Popp), along with the last fifteen minutes of Richard Strauss' opera Der Rosenkavalier and The Prayer from Humperdink's Hansel and Gretal.

Whilst not strictly a song [although it has words] that tugs at me is "Ich hatte ein Kamerad" [Once, I had a comrade} More of hymn than a song. In any language it is haunting.
