Yet here we are having a discussion about a Scottish tennis player and the second anyone says anything remotely critical, it's as if the English are picking on him because he's Scottish. It's nothing of the sort.

I would be delighted if he was winning grand slams but I am not at all sure he is good enough for that. Nothing to do with being Scottish, all to do with his ability.

What a sad place it would be if we all thought the same.
Regarding the Scots as a nation willing England to lose, its just not true. There is an element of anti English feeling in Scotland but I would say that is a minority of people with those feelings. Im a Scot and always support England if they are the only British team in a competition as does Scottish member here Grey Wyler. Of Cricket I know nothing so wouldn't ordinarily support anyone playing it as it doesn't interest me at all. Like golf its one of the few sports you can actually put on weight while playing it, I mean all those stops for lunch and tea and scones etc Apologies to all you cricket fans out there for my blasphemy.I think the press like to stir up a bit of fiction regarding Scotland wanting England to lose, I've already said so but I will say again, its a myth and a load of old rubbish!

No blasphemy at all, it's the marvellous repasts that make it the game it is!

Some of my most memorable times watching cricket matches have been when no cricket has been played

Ahaaa...after 50 years I now have a fellow ENGLISHMAN to admire. There is no such country as "Britain" That is the name of the island on which there are 3 nations. Scotland. Wales and ENGLAND. By-the-way the patron Saint of England is ST EDMUND not St George

Edward 3rd ousted St Edmund from his 'patron saint' role in favour of St George. Has that been changed again or is he simply your preferred choice of saint?

I take it you weren't watching the Rugby Sevens from Murrayfield last weekend where every England try against any opposition was met with loud boos....I don't decry your good faith, but I'm not sure you're entirely correct.

Bit of a Bay Window, what??

But there were only about seven people there from the tiny bit I watched.................
presumably they were all sitting behind the camera-position................

Wasn't something going on at Twickenham the same weekend?

If only they'd got Hazel on the team.......................
