Default An Index/ Chart Re Money's Value Then and Now

I'm sure this could be put more succiinctly, but here goes. Is there such a thing as a table or index where you can compare the value of money from a previous year to now ? Such as 50 pounds in 1947 would be the equivalent to ???? today. Does such a thing exist ?

Oh, very nice - and it has a GDP calculator as well for both the UK and the US, that goes back to the early Victorian era. I will have fun with this.

It's good isn't it? My pet hate is books (especially those aimed at children) which just say ' A Victorian labourer earned 10 shillings a week - that's 50p in today's money' as if it's in any way meaningful. At least say how much a loaf or a newspaper was so you can have a rough idea of purchasing power.

Yes, indeed. When it comes to financial data, there is no substitute for specific and detailed statistics.
