Default What Is the Point of 'Breakfast'?

I would like to know, what is the point of 'Breakfast' from the BBC? Is it the most useless news programme (if it is a news programme).

Every morning they manage to produce the most annoying outputs, the list goes on and on.
This morning two in particular. Report; 'The BBC is to set up an internal inquiry to ascertain whether or not Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland are short changed when it comes to news items' As if they don't know!
This after receiving 'complaints'. How many is not disclosed.
The answer is obvious, North of Watford is a strange territory to the BBC and, before I may be accused of home prejudice I would would very much like to know about foreign Continental news. There has been massive protest all over Europe about the price of fuel but some nonsense item is more important it might seem. We know little or nothing about activities across the Channel.

Another report this morning concerns milk to be sold in plastic containers 'to save the planet! (I had thought milk bottles were the most 'save the planet' of items - used over and over - however). Plastic for landfill again but wait, one can not use the container without some 'plastic' jug gadget for the container to be fitted into
that must be placed correctly and a spout correctly applied. My wife immediately said that the thing would not fit into the fridge! This point would be beyond the BBC news persons also the clear fact to me that this jug would be a breading ground for bacteria, again without any explanation from this national news service
or the price expected for the jug or how many times it may be used!

Some of the stuff they report on is useless but not as bad as GMTV, now that programme is POINTLESS in the extreme! How it wasnt finished off years ago I will never know.

And that Penny woman who used to crack jokes at the end of the news was a pain in the backside! Dunno if she is still there and don`t care!

xx

We`re changin` lodggggggggings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When breakfast television started in the early 1980s I made a deliberate point of not watching it based on the assumption that if the evening programme schedule was struggling to entertain me, even with a new Channel 4, then it would be intolerable to switch the set on first thing in the morning.

Back then I preferred Radio 4 first thing anyway. Some 25 years later I still haven't watched any breakfast television and I don't bother with the radio either. Those precious post waking hours are spent in blissful silence, which is very hard to find these days.

As I've mentioned before you can't go into a shop, a cafe, pub, swimming baths or even a hospital without TV or music blaring out at irritatingly high decibels. I've not been to the library for a while and I wonder if they've now got Radio 1 playing loud through a PA System?

It never used to be that way, in fact the only shop I remember playing music was a friend of mine's brother's trendy boutique back in 1973. Everywhere else it was just quiet and people could talk and hear each other's converations.

So IMHO breakfast TV is just filling in the space once taken up by the more interesting Test Card and musak.

If you really must watch early morning TV, you have a choice.
Breakfast or GMTV. Unfortunately my wife insists on watching the latter, and as soon as I the switch is turned on that is my cue to calmly walk out of the house, which does get slightly embarassing when I've only got my boxers on.
Alternatively you could listen to Radio Four.

Just listen to radio 4

When I'm travelling around on business, if the TV in the room gets radio 4 then I have that playing in the morning as I get ready. If it doesn't get radio 4 then I might get it on my phone (ain't technology wonderful) or I'll just enjoy the silence

Nobody really needs news all the time. If the end of the world happens or there's some really big news event, you'll hear about it soon enough anyway (and for the 6 months following the event)

You'll be glad to know that I spend much of my day in my library telling people to shut up/switch their phones off/take that look off their face etc. I've never heard of one with piped music though I used to work in a music library where we played cds (mostly popular classics and showtunes)

So I might conclude that Breakfast is but a morning magazine programme rather than a news programme - it does have split personality.
If this be the case then alright I accept it but what really gets on my nerves are so many things about the presentation, in particular the patronizing tone to the viewers and the way they will speak sideways to each other rather than to the viewers as if we are only to be tolerated. They also appear ridiculously happy regardless of what the news might be on most occasions.

I do not see why, as a license payer, so much time should be spent promoting goods
and big business marks. (Never small business).
As a male I find it irritating that more women seem to occupy the seating for interviews then us males (experts - whatever). So I must conclude it is female oriented too.
Of course the English language is constantly mangled (Prescottised) with the mumbling of words without stopping for breath.

The major story this morning was a boy of 12 years who crossed New York over two miles that, according the this programme, 'has caused world wide consternation'
So it is about the freedom of our children to be alone to travel but the story could not be conducted here it must be New York with BBC news person. Then they place an American on the seat for the her views.
Finally it is disclosed that the mother of the boy is a well known American journalist
and the conclusion then must be that the whole thing is a media set-up
