I only have one or two gripes about him , he has had a bit of a whinge about having his nose knocked out of joint when the Beatles became a major force in the charts. We all know that many solo artists felt the pinch during those times, Adam Faith and Billy Fury to but two.

ButCliff carried on having hits during Betlmemania and most that material was a few notches above the poor material that Elvis was saddled with from 1963 to 1967.

His Eurovision entries,"Congratulations." and "Power to All My Friends," were pretty ropey.

Fortunately PhiL Coulter who wrote Congratulations with his writing parnter Bill Martin later redeedmed himself by writing "The Town I loves so Well." a song associated with The Dubliners.

The other thing I dont like was his statement on the radio documenary the other week about him being a very radical artiste which is cleary balderdash

There is a resturant chain in the UK called Frankie and Bennys, at my local one whenever a customer has a birthday the waiting staff bring out a cake, this is followed by a fanfare and a qucik burst of Congratulations it must be hell for the staff to endure this day in and day out.

Heard on the radio this morning that Sir Cliff is bringing out a record next month in honour of his fifty years in the music biz, its called,"Thank You For A Lifetime." , hate to prejudge but I have a feeling in my water that it will have as much musical value as Milenium Prayer, Misteltoe and Wine, zilch. Just the thing to re-inforce the opinion of the cynics.

Nice to see a good review for Cliffs anniversary boxed set in The Record Collector. As I said a at the beginning of this thread Cliff has done a couple of things that havent been to my taste but I am happy enough to purchase most of his back catagloue, especially the lesser known sixites album tracks and forgotten hits. There is so much criticism levelled at Cliff its nice to hear some constructive comments for a change.

We were discussing where I should make an edit to remove a duff note. I still have those tapes.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

I admit to liking some of his music, I'm probably one of very few Americans who even know who the guy is. Cliff has been around for a long time so I give him that much credit - he must be doing something right.

Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
