Default Utility Warehouse

Has anyone any experience of Utility Warehouse?

I've just had my domestic phonebill arrive, £13 worth of calls but £54 in rental and £4.50 standing charges. It all works out at a £72 bill.

I've just had a quick peek at the UW website and they offer £9.99 per month line rental.

I use the following:

www.18185.co.uk

and as a back-up

1899.com; UK's cheapest telecom provider!

You can also use BT for freephone calls or at times when they are cheaper.
If you add primus to the mix, you can pay even less.
See Martins Lewis's site.

I've always been with BT for the Telephone, and what is now Orange for the Net, but I'd like to change to a company that has cheaper line rental, I don't make many phone calls as such, but most of my leisure time is spent on the Net these days, and most of the Bill is made up of line rental

Thing is is it a palava to change service providers?.......don't they get 'upset' if you want to change Companies?........I wouldn't really know how to go about it to be honest!

I'm with BT Broadband which covers the cost of my broadband usage, the line rental and the cost of phone calls. All this for £22 per month. I was paying £37 per month until I discovered that I was paying too much for my phone calls, so I reduced the amount. I had a credit balance of about £80 which I'm gradually working my way through.

Tiscali and BT both sound good!........I'm currently paying £17.99 a month with Orange solely for the Internet, I feel a bit of a Mug with all these cheaper deals I see around me!

I use Eclipse for broadband and pay 18.99 for 8meg speed and 10gb download limit.
I use about 8gb of my download limit per month but sometimes I use most of that over two or three days.
The problem with ISPs who claim that they have no download limits, is that they also have a small print disclaimer, 'subject to fair use policy'.
This should ring alarm bells as there is no such thing as unlimited downloads at budget prices.
There are some horror stories on the net about a few of the high-profile ISPs and their download policies, so I stick with Eclipse in the knowledge that I won't be throttled, and that the worse that will happen is that I will have to pay pro-rata if I exceed my 10gb.
Simple.

Virgin Media provide the cheapest all round option, I was thinking of signing up to it, until someone told me that when it rained heavily they would lose their phone connection. Has anyone else experienced this? If you are a Virgin Media customer please let the rest of us know what you think. And is it really only £30.00 for the 3 above a month or are there other hidden charges?

UW seems effectively like a pyramid selling operation - if you google the name you get a fair share of anti-UW feeling, with very defensive stuff from distributors.

I personally wouldn't touch them with a bargepole - but everyone must of course Do Your Own Research!

I signed up with cable for TV, phone & the computer connection as soon as they laid cable in the street. That was some years ago now and it was originally run by Telewest. They were bought out by Virgin last year.

I haven't noticed any technical problems with Virgin, certainly not when it rains. I don't think the phone line has ever gone down all the time it's been on cable. Their phone support is a bit slower than Telewest's was, but it's adequate.

Because they offer so many combinations, bundling TV, landline phone, mobile phone & computer line (broadband can refer to mobile phone or computer line) it's best to check on their web site and find the package that suits you best.

On the contrary, if you call your service provider and say that you're thinking of changing and want to check what is necessary - then they'll often offer you a better deal
