I love this Forum ,and I must admit I was becoming a little distracted by the threads that were springing up that just seemed chatty , so I welcome the Purge (If that is the right word ? ) If I want somebody to know something personal I can put it on my profile or send a PM ,and being the modest person I am I wouldn't post a picture of myself ( although it might be useful placed in the window to keep cats off the lawn )There are films I have seen because of the knowledgeable members of this forum ,that otherwise I wouldn't have seen ,and am adding to my wants list on a regular basis. Many thanks to All the moderators (and Admin) and members who make this a friendly ,Informative and enjoyable Forum to be part of |

Well..I don't know what to say..I like the forum...I understood some of the reasoning behind this, as I wrote..and felt I had been dealt with fairly...but I think DB7 was a bit mean about the Donna thing. Either he is totally exasperated with situations like this or he is just a very bad man..
I think the latter is true - I reckon he is a right so and so on the quiet. However, this is his forum and he is going to come back in a minute and chuck me off (or come back, notice I am on here and go off deliberately) Who knows...to be honest, I'm rather more focused on the rather interesting looking SKY TV guy come to fix my telly in the corner. I don't know if that is too..personal for anyone..but this is where my thoughts are lying at this moment.. But, anyway..erm..I don't know - when people come in they might make 'mistakes' because they are not used to the place..I have..and attempted to change my ways, but I'm not sure I could ever agree that I won't come on here and say anything 'off-message' and that does seem draconian to even be worried about it. Perhaps you could run a course before people join?

![]() No - to be fair. It cannot be easy to run a place like this - not at all..as you can see - I'm quite prepared to say what I think and I think this must be difficult..organising people in a room is hard enough..on an internet forum - hell, I should imagine. Anyway, the above was written partly tongue in cheek- but part not.. If I get banned, I get banned..but it is a good forum, so you must be doing something right.

Organizing and running something purely voluntarily is a thankless task, you cannot please all of the people all of the time. Remember, this is a non profit web site. I know of one film site which charges.
The primary object of Britmovie.co.uk is to provide information on British film. The balance has always to be in that favour. Am sure DB7 offered advice to those who needed it but if they didn't care to take it then that is their responsibility. The people who run this site have jobs, families and other commitments. Cajoling someone or teaching someone how to use this forum would be time consuming. What would take five minutes face to face could take hours by text. It is impractical. Freddy |

I've read this thread with interest, as I do so many on here.
I "happened" across the forum whilst searching for information on "Peeping Tom" which I had seen featured on a TV programme about British Films. So, I came on here to learn and I have succeeded in doing that; indeed I am continuing to learn ........... every time I browse. So, my thanks to those who envisaged, launched and administer this excellent forum precede my comments below. As a former moderator of two very busy forums (Auto and Autosports related) with worldwide membership and sponsorship I can say, hand on heart, that it is not an easy task. One needs to secure the confidence of potential forum members; attract the much needed sponsors and advertisers and project a balanced attitude to users. We also had several luminaries as members; most of these were honorary. Our luminaries tended to have been inductees to Halls Of Fame rather than Oscar/BAFTA winners. ![]() We had a fairly stringent set of forum rules which members had to accept and a provision that the rules may change from time to time, as notified. The most frequent problem we encountered was "flaming". The second most frequent was offering items for sale which was specifically forbidden under the forum rules (Sponsors and Advertisers were paying for that privilege). Flaming incidents were dealt with by locking the thread and inviting the parties involved to PM, e-mail or 'phone each other to resolve their differences. It became apparent that a lot of threads were moving away from the raison d'etre of the forum. The main culprits were members who wanted to post something humorous, in their opinion and members who, quite simply were posting in inappropriate, but busier sections of the forum to gain maximum attention; the latter were easier to deal with by moving their threads...........as per the forum rules. In the case of the former we opened a "Garage Humour" section with admission by request to one of the moderators, and not visible to the general public. On first browsing, the potential member (as they would on here) see a robust "General Section" augmented by subsections according to interest. They also notice that there are other "social" threads where they can introduce themselves (again, as there are on here) From my own experience as a former forum administrator, I would say that you have the perfect balance on here. To appear too serious would deter the potential member; to appear too slaphappy and amateur would have the same effect. There are a couple of book forums to which I belong that are way too serious and rather off-putting. They're not very busy either. I would have no hesitation in recommending this site to anyone. As has been mentioned before I think the best way forward is to let commonsense prevail among the members. Those of us who are relatively new here, myself included (June 2007) have had the view from DB7 and other administrators/moderators. I now have a much clearer and more enlightened vision of what we are all trying to achieve. This is still the best site of its kind. Here's to the future
Why not visit the Festive Fayre section? |

I think that is an excellent balanced post Chevy
I just wanted to add that I don't think that DB7 is a 'very bad man' or anything - I was just trying to make light in regards to the 'booting off' comment. Since I have come here he has been very pleasant and even offered for me to 'have a rant' about the situation on the forum - free from any 'banning'...and has also been very kind in regard to another matter..which he really didn't need to do.. I don't know why I am getting so involved in this, really, because I did come here to talk about film and I have no interest in challenging anyone on how they run this forum, essentially. It should be a fun place to dip in and out and it obviously is or so many people would not come here. I am..who I am..and if it means that I am in any way rocking the boat, then it is me that needs to leave..simple as that.. Come back on DB7 and don't be sad. |
