Default Happy 4th of July

It's nearly over and I've neglected to wish all our American friends a Happy 4th of July

From your former oppressor in England

Steve

As they're a bit behind us, they still have a few hours to go - depending on where they live.

And a Happy 4th of July from me too.

DS x.

Many thanks for your good wishes.

If we Yanks wanted to reciprocate, is there a British equivalent to our Independence Day holiday?

See the Happy 60th thread for why today would be an excellent day.

All the best

That's the trouble with never having been in thrall to anyone for the last 900+ years - there's no independence to celebrate

You could try a few patron saints' days
Saint George (England) - April 23
Saint David (Wales) - March 1
Saint Patrick (Northern Ireland) - March 17
Saint Andrew (Scotland) - November 30

Or when we celebrate the only man to enter parliament with honest intentions - November 5

I see what you mean Steve, I don't hold with his 'intentions' (being a Royalist) one little bit, but at least he was honest, which is a bit more than can be said for most Politicians!

Exactly, I said "honest", not "honourable"

An almost belated Thank You!

Yes, that tea tax business sure got out of hand.

That date is rather mute compared to others. Although, there were signs this year that people were becoming aware of it.

I have just read today that George W Bush is the most guarded US President in history. A burden for the US tax payers even from when he leaves office up until the day he pops his clogs, methinks.

I said this another thread, but here it is again,Happy Independence Day my American friends.

'Once it was Mother and God and the Country and Once it was flags and the Fourth of July!'

A lament on the history of the USA from a song by the late, great singer/songwriter John Stewart.
