Thanks EllyMack ... some of things you describe Joshua presented with quite strongly, especially the eating and not wanting to get dirty. He has improved a lot with these, the biggest thing he present with now is an inability to cope well with change and a necessity for his routine to remain the same. As you said, we just get on with it. His teachers are brilliant (as is his consultant) and he has made lots of friends at school.

Tim, the lad who comes to do my garden is a high functioning autistic. High enough functioning to live by himself and run his gardening business. But he does like his routine and he did get flustered one time when the house was suddenly full of people when he's used to just me being here. When that happened I just got everyone to stop rushing around and all talking at once and then Tim was fine again.

He's very bright and we have some lovely chats. And he does love puzzles and word-play. I told him the one about
Time flies like an arrow
Fruit flies like a banana

And you could see his brain whirring away trying to make sense of it. But we got to an acceptable explanation in the end

Steve

Hey Batman, being a worker in the mental health industry, you ever heard of Asperger people having an affliction towards heat?

My 2 nephews have autism.

Unless you see it, you don't understand it. My brother and sister in law live a terrible life compared to the rest of us!

When they come to visit - it's like a white tornado!!

All my B-i-L wanted was to have a normal life, play cricket with his son, take him to the footy etc...........this THING has blown their life apart!

I can't even BEGIN to think what it's like! Thank the Lord it didn't happen to you!

.....You couldn't hear it, if they were shooting at me with howitzers!

Not especially, but then I don't work with that many Asperger sufferers. The Boy Wonder doesn't like the heat much, but neither do I and I'm normal.

Heat causes the agression to escalate for some Aspies.

What is happening now is the earth is under climate change, so it has been getting hotter, but we've increased in number, and still increasing.

I think Gordon Brown and most of the Labour Cabinet suffer from it too!
