You're quite right, Joe, I wasn't being offensive.
I wasn't confusing gender with sexual orientation either.
I was merely referring to Dale Winton's reported response when questioned about his sexuality, and reflecting a supposed coyness on my part regarding my gender, which would be apparent to anyone who has bothered to read my posts, (not too many people I should think).

To be a little pedantic, 'gender' means masculine/feminine. Words in languages like French have a gender, and all human beings have some masculine and feminine characteristics, regardless of their sex. 'Sex' means male/female. So people have a sex, not a gender. I suspect people tend to use the word gender when they mean sex because it's longer and sounds more sophisticated. However, usually they're wrong to speak or write of someone's gender. I think distinctions such as this (disinterested/uninterested is another) are worth preserving.
