Nice to get one back after being forced out of the International fishing grounds by them and the Yanks over a threat to NaTO. Now they can't afford the fuel to put to sea, I suppose the Spanish and Norwegians will move in - we can't, we haven't got a fishing fleet! Die Ted, oh, you already did.
They speak English well though, don't they.

Regards,
HG

They're going through a terrible time: the IMF has been brought in to bring some stability after the banking system has imploded, and the currency has collapsed.

OK< so they have no oil?

It's funny, cause here in the states, we never hear about nations like Iceland unless something really bad's going on over there.

I mean, I feel sorry they have to declare bankruptcy, but the USA may soon follow. Yikies!

If you think that Iceland has it tough spare a thought for Zimbabwe.
The official inflation rate there has just reached an amazing 231 Million %.

That means that you could work all week over there, collect your pay and then be able to buy NOTHING.

The majority of people over there have given up using the worthless Zimbabwe banknotes and are now starting to barter for the exchange of food, animals and basic items between each other.

Dave.

the thing that makes me laugh ,about the current financial situation ,is that george bush and gordon brown talk about it as if its a natural disaster .like a hurricane or tornado has blown up wall st or round the square mile or a volcano has erupted in iceland ,wreaking havoc and killing innocent merchant bankers .its the sheer breathtaking greed of these people thats got us here and yet they still continue to prop these people up . there was no money to subsidise post offices remember .

Sore point. Speaking as one of the 300,000 who currently stand to lose out from the collapse of ICESAVE, I only wish now I'd chosen that nice, friendly Nigerian bank instead.

I suppose it could be worse . . . at least I'm not related to Sarah Palin by marriage.

If I had a swimming pool, it would probably burn down . . .

At the last estimate by our spooky people - $1,500,000,000 give or take a quid! But of course the international courts will never freeze his assets like they did Iraq's - far too non-PC. South Africa would object, then nationalise all our SA assets, currently worth between $40 and $55 billion to the British Exchequer. And what would the robin (bastard) do then - poor thing?

HG

10 years I went on a holiday to Iceland. It has some spectacular scenery, long days and short cold nights (this was during the summer). My overriding memory was just how incredibly expensive everything was. I asked a few Icelandic people why this was the case and they said that everything is taxed to the hilt.

Similar to the Scandinavian mainland EHV. I lived and worked in Sweden in the
80s and, if you take meat as an example, cattle and pigs are only found in Scania (the south) lamb is more prolific, but most beef is imported.

The price of a beer (250mls) then was around £4. Yet alcoholism is high My employers used to have their own rehab centre for this

Income tax is still horrendous.

They have an exemplary healthcare and welfare system............but it has to be paid for.

A beautiful country though
