Watching Sky News at work tonight, they did a quick survey of the newspapers headlines for today. One of them,I don't which one,ran a headline "The woman who ? Liverpool FC". I couldn't read most of it. Is there a young lady after buying Liverpool FC or something?

Gooners, Gooners come out, come out wherever you are. You too Orpheum, lift your head up high again.
The Arsenal result last night was one of their greatest ever in Europe, if not their greatest , magnificent! Congratulations. And that from a Lillywhite! Fair's, fair, I really thought they would go out easily, but The Prof won out, good for him. |

I have to admit that the Arse' seemed to play with more passion. They wanted it more and seemed to hold their nerve better than Milan and played with some poise. Two well taken goals should perhaps mark a pivotal point in their season.
It's all set up quite nicely for another good climax ,Premiership-wise, for the Champions League. We might even hear from Orpheum if they keep this up! Where are you old boy? Quote:

Chelski were on good form last night, but at 3-0 we switched over to watch Roma beat Real Madrid. That match was so poor that if it had been 'Boro v Wigan we'd have switched off! We then watched the extra time and penalties of Porto v Schalke. Again a very poor match. No wonder our teams are doing so well again this year if these teams performances are anything to go by.

Question for any of you guys:
I cannot figure out how the football leagues are structured in Britain. They don't seem to be comparable to the baseball and football (our football, of course ) leagues in the US, where there are two leagues. In Britain there seem to be far more. Maybe I am wrong?I assume England, Scotland and Wales are all involved. What about Ireland? I have heard of the famous Arsenal team. But that is not a city, is it? ![]() Actually, I don't like reading a sports thread and not understanding it. ![]() American sports were always enough for me - I was never very interested in football (soccer to me) until the World Cup in 2006. Terrific. But I realized I had no idea how the various national teams win their own competitions. The world series and the super bowl are comparatively simple. Much appreciated. The structure is massive, probably best to read up here:
English football league system - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Welsh have their own league but many of the larger clubs play in the more lucrative English leagues. I don't believe there are any Scottish clubs playing south of the border. Northern Ireland and the Republic also have their own leagues. I've never heard of Arsenal... |
