Much appreciated.

That has always amused me Tim.

The Americans call their own baseball competition the World Series when only American teams are competing.
Wouldn't you say thats just a little bit pompous?

Dave.

They try to give some rationale for that in the Wikipedia article about it. But there is really no excuse and it does leave them open to ridicule. But it isn't only open to teams from the USA, teams from Canada can compete as well

I'm more puzzled by why it is that the two major sports in the States, baseball and basketball, aren't played anywhere near as much by anyone outside the United States - and where they or something similar are played a lot, they are mainly played as schoolgirls' games like rounders and netball.

But I never understood organised sports anyway, so who am I to comment?

"If they can avoid each other in the draw, who's gonna bet against another Chelski/ManUSA final. My tip outside those two ... Pompey!"

I posted that a couple of weeks ago! Today's result - ManUSA 0 Pompey 1 ...... let's all hope (well me anyway) Chelski don't bugger it up at Barnsley!

Finally our turn to join in the torment of Newcastle. Poor old Kev has a massive job and is going to require quite a war chest to turn things around. A lot of money has been spent on some very average players (many like Smith, Butt, Geremi, Duff, Faye, were bench material at other clubs.

I just watched the highlights of ManUSA v Pompey, if their name isn't on the cup after that my ass is a kipper!

I don't normally stick up for the Reds but how the hell did they lose that .... great defending by Pompey and one dodgy penalty decision against Ronaldo, that's how.

Great result!

Only if Pompey don't win the cup! If they do, it remains as pert as well defined as ever.

Thanks.

The Welsh have their own league but many of the larger clubs play in the more lucrative English leagues. I don't believe there are any Scottish clubs playing south of the border.

Northern Ireland and the Republic also have their own leagues.
But England and Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland and the Irish republic eventually play each other at some point, don't they? Or else how is it decided who will eventually play beyond Britain, and have the chance to go on to the world cup?

I've never heard of Arsenal...
Arsenal.com

This is what I meant: Arsenal Football Club (also known as Arsenal, The Arsenal or The Gunners) are an English professional football club based in Holloway, north London. They play in the Premier League and are one of the most successful clubs in English football, having won thirteen First Division and Premier League titles and ten FA Cups.

Chelsea were so bad ..... the game was tailor-made for Droggy. Anelka and Malouda might as well not have turned up ..... very poor. Barnsley played well and should probably have been 1-0 at half-time. Oh well, there's always the Champions League and the Premiership.
